californiagrownStart my drive at 3am so i can drive totally alone on the 2 lane highway. Pretty damn cool getting the warpspeed effect with brights on and fresh untouched snow on the road. Just a little baked drinking coffee, getting loose. Pull into the best spot in the lot around 6:30, and take an hour or so nap. Wake up, head into the lodge to use the microwave to heat up my breakfast of steelcut oats, and grits, sausage eggs cheese. Take a shit. Go back to my car to retrieve my skis and smoke a bowl. Head to the lift line to see who is there and who ill buddy up with for the first few laps.

Proceed to get fucking rad.

Working: Get up at 4:30-5 depending on control plan, make a fried egg (slightly broken yoke...it's an art and I get it more wrong than right), 2 slices of bacon, everything bagel. 4-5 "cups" (c'mon they're 6 oz....who the fuck drinks a 6 oz coffe?) out of a too-old, too-rarely cleaned pot-made coffee, dumped into a Stanley, out the door with nothing in my hands. Meeting, build boom sticks, snowmobile/cat/lift/hike, chuck, huck, suck, oh fuck, phew good luck, repeat.

Not Working: Debauchery. Pocket beers, sidearm, tools, to-go bfast (daylight, t-bell, bagel cream cheese, coffee), sneak in basement door, grab my skis, hi-five lifties and scanners, hide somebody's poles on the roof, put someone's heel piece up, mean mug that one douche who nobody likes doing a shitty job clearing the ramp and slapping the chairs, get as far from the base area and chair 2 as possible (after crushing something off of 2 to go elsewhere) and figure out if we can get tows or if the cat is running, and indulge in all sorts of winter fun activities with pals.

After? Baths. Baths, man. And, Hot Toddies. And, RICE and ibuprofen.

What are your morning pow day rituals?

Mine? My buddies and I always meet at our house around 5, cook a fuckin enormous breakfast, stretch (maybe some yoga), we all make sure we have our beacons, backpacks, shovels etc. 2 cases of beer, 1 bottle of whiskey, plenty of the green stuff, and Clif bars galore.

Every single time. Never fails.

perryhunterOh well, the only difference of mine is that we minimized the number of beers up to 4 bottles only because we all want to glide and not to get drunk.

theabortionatorGet out of bed. Throw my boots and everything else on. Jump in the car, blast along the unplowed or barely plowed road to the mt. Depending on the season stop to throw snow on the windshield cause I can't see where I'm going from the salt and have no fluid left but keep forgetting to get some when I stop at the gas station for beers.

Grab a bacon egg and cheese and coffee at the mountain, then go send a fee laps.

If Im working try and get the park cleaned up and open as fast as possible then take a nice lap down something do some more work and go deeper into the secret stashes as other spots get beat out.

Honestly putting boots on, a breakfast sandwich and coffee are my only routine and that doesn't change for a pow day. Really don't have a routine. A day at the hill is a day at the hill in terms of preparation for me.

freeballerI don't have time to wait on people, so I shred solo on deep pow days and then call the homies when it's time to venture out of the gates after the pow is tracked in bounds.

GrizzlyBurrIf some dudes aren't ready by the time we are, we leave them. If it's unanimous what time everyone decides to get up get ready and be up there and you decide to slack you will be left.

freeballerExactly! Plus, I'm probably going to run into folks on the mountain that I know, so I'll shred a lap or two with them if they are wanting to hit the same zone and don't hold me up. No friends on a pow day is the truth. If I hold them up, they are gone as well but we'll definitely meet for Apres Brewskis at the end of the day, so it's all good.

Also, too many people in a crew means less pow and more waiting. I'm balls to the wall with no break other than the chairlift.
