What are you trying to do? Those are both great for their intended purposes, but hardly comparable. If you don't have a camera, I'd probably go with the t3i because it will be way more versatile than a GoPro.
I absolutely recommend gopros also, but they cant replace a regular camera
If your making edits that have some quality you'll want to get the T3i, if you just filming your self ski, you'll want to get a Go Pro, I have both and I use my T3i a lot more
im mostly making edits not alot of pics and im like so scared that i would like drop the t3i in the snow or something stupid like that and thats why i thought about the gopro pluse i can take it in my pool
If you want to learn about videography or photography, get a t3i or comparable camera with manual controls. If you just want decent footage to show your mom or friends, get a go pro.
An ARRI ALEXA mounted with Angenieux's Optimo 24-290 f/2.5 will eat that little baby Action camera and my-first-dslr as a light hors d'œuvre. It's not much heavier either.
those are two very different types of cameras pal... GoPro for pov(obvi) and pretty casual stuff, in my opinion they are really fun for just messing around with in the summer and the winter and stuff. If you want to really get into the filming aspect where you are filming others and making great edits I would get a t3i
Its hard to tell since I dont know your budget. If its under 500, get a gopro. Otherwise, remember that you need to pay for a decent lens+the camera itself , which often costs more than a grand.

For a T3i? Not if you go the used route. I got a used T3i on ebay with a low actuation count, 2 lenses, some sd cards and a sweet bag for $420 and it works perfectly and pretty much looks brand new.

The thing about a dslr like the t3i is that it is more of an investment, the longer you have it you'll be able to build up your arsenal of lenses and equipment to where over time you can see your film making skills and quality really grow. I just got my dslr last year and watching videos I've made from a year ago till today there a huge difference and it's awesome to see that growth and it's kind of what makes filming fun. But I mean you can't go wrong with a gopro either, you'll get solid shots right out of the box but its not really a 'film-making camera' its more of a piece of equipment. Don't get me wrong you can make super cool shit with go pro's but you're still very limited. But then again you have a fish eye right there which will be probably what you'll film with most. Idk make a pro's and con's list lol

I'd go down this road and pickup a glidecam and external mic for it, and you've got a solid setup! You'll be shooting like Eheath in no time

It depends on the quality you require from the shots. Obviously a gopro will be less, and its easier to film pov, however in low light it suuuucks (read: urban) and the general qual isnt as good as a dslr. Plus DSLRs take pics. For your budget, you'd be looking at a used gopro, unless you can up it to what ^ said, I doubt you'd be able to find a t3i in a decent condition. Maybe check out the t2i
