Detuning

Hello newschoolers, how would I go about detuning edges on my new park skis? Sanding them? Also will it cause an issue if I only detune the edges under the foot where I slide rails? Thanks

take a rock and slide it up and down the edges of your skis...like totally trevor

but seriously...i would just take them to the shop

Do you think using a grinder will work?

What type of grinder? Really all you want to use is an edge file. You are not looking to really remove to much edge you just want to round off the sharp edge. Using an edge file will be the best tool to use. You can transition between sharp edge to rounded underfoot easily this way. Remember to define the contact points as not all shops remember to do this.

Usually when you detune you do want to do it right under the foot while keeping the tip and tail sharp so it will allow you to have a slightly better edge while carving. I just hit rails over and over to detune my skis, but if you want, a bastard file works great. Detune underfoot about 4 inches from you foot and 4 inches back so the ski is completely useless for carving.

Be careful. You can completely take off all edge that you can never get back. I just use a gummy stone, but I like my edges pretty sharp.

Another thing you can do is set your base edge angle super high, like a 3 or 4 degree. that way they don't catch on rails, but you still have a sharp edge when skiing out of the park.
