This article does point out some truths though. A lot of people in their 20s now are not settling for jobs because it has health insurance. They are doing activities and jobs that they love (at least I hope so!). Just being a salesman 9-5 and going straight to the bar after work to drown their sorrows are not going to cut it. The younger generation is more open minded. Also, a lot us do not believe shit that our government is saying. Shit is slowly changing for the better imo. May get worse before it gets better...
Each US citizen is born with (17,768,000,000,000 / 315,000,000) $56,400 in debt. How do you expect to escape that debt? and it is only getting worse everyday. To be optimistic is to be blind to the truth.
While there are some things to be optimistic about, (production jobs coming back due to america's most productive workforce, Siemens) there is so much more to be afraid of. I just happen to live in New York, were more people live off the teat than supply for themselves, and the number of people sucking continues to increase everyday, and the people who are robbed to create such a system is decreasing everyday.
This article does do a good job pointing out interesting ideas about our generation. It started in the 60s, but nowadays we aren't going to stand for a lot of bullshit. We doubt our government, we doubt the wars we're in, we doubt what parents tell us, we doubt religion... We refuse to buy into bullshit just because that is the way it has always been done. At least that is how I see it. My parents are Catholic and republican as shit. They barely open their minds to change. They rarely question their government or the church. Our generation is way more open minded and more resistant to bullshit. shit is changing like i mentioned earlier.

Whenever groups get generalized the it is going to sound dumb. For example, if somebody says "Women suck". Well, some do yeah, but some are awesome. So, when the author just says millennial's, they need to point out that it is only some of them, not all. Overall though the article makes some great points. Tons of people refuse to take a 9-5 job, but instead make less money and enjoy their lives. We see it all the time with ski bums. I hear about it all the time with on podcast with people giving up great jobs to become stand-ups. So is it everybody? No. But, tons of people look at life different than the last generations are. They are being more open minded and not buying into all the bull shit.
A year ish ago somebody shared there friends kickstarter where he wanted everyone to pay for him to build a house. Also his design was unrealistic and seemed like it was drawn up by a 5th grader or somebody still a little burnt from smoking a spliff and jamming with bob marley. Then in a nice way I called him out and him and his friends got super butthurt.
Also another one somebody posted on here about the chick that though we should buy her a $50,000 cello because she wasn't going to get the parts she wanted playing the one she had. She went to some music store and tried everything and fell in love with an italian cello. That's great and all, and for most people that would be a goal for saving toward the future but for her it meant, she DESERVED it now and we should pay for it.
That's the kind of shit the article reminded me of. I'm not calling everyone in a generation lazy and entitled but I sure am seeing more of this now. Maybe as mentioned above to an extent it's more the changes in technology than the changes in people but who knows. There is definitely a push to make sure everyone knows they're special. Hell I watched some poetry contest and the lowest score you could get was an 8/10. Things like that. Everyone's afraid of hurt feelings. You can't fall off the monkey bars anymore, mom will be there till you're 16 just to make sure. Even better, maybe the monkey bars got removed because they're too dangerous.
To me this is what that article makes me think of. Are there a lot of people doing their own thing? sure. But a while back going to college actually meant something in terms of education. Look at some of the stuff people are going to school for these days, and then bitching that they didn't get a 6 figure job offer right out of school.
Idk. I do what I love and refuse to make money my ultimate goal. I've never done things because "that's what you're supposed to do". I could go on but won't. With that said it seems like I should be all about this article and stoked and all that. I still think this article is a steaming pile of shit though.
