Anybody ever skied at crested butte?

Just found out I'm taking a trip out to crested butte, CO for a week in January. What is ns's opinion?

The layout of the mountain is a little weird, but we hiked off the t-bar and there is some gnarly shit. Not hard to find good terrain though! have fun

It's fun! They have a lot of insane terrain, some of the best in bounds of the country. And if the snow isn't that great, they have a pretty decent park too!

It's awesome! some of the easiest access to some of the gnarliest terrain you can find in a resort. Also, it generally doesn't get very crowded like a lot of other resorts in CO. It can take some time to figure out how to find everything, but once you do, it's really fun

Basically just ski off the surface lifts, Northface and the High lift, for long sustained steep skiing. Lookers right of the Silver Queen lift is also steep and long. The park is all the way out on the backside of the bunny hill. There's no backcountry access, the longest hike you might get stuck on is like 15 minutes. You might mess up your bases and smash your face into a rock,there are plenty.

What's the night life like? If there's no night skiing then I'm definitely going to have to find something to do. How old do you have to be to get into bars?

You were clearly skiing the green runs when you were there^^. It might seem low vert compared to Revelstoke. OP you do have to be 21 to drink at the bars. Don't try and fake it as the bartenders are good at finding fakes (Western state is 20mins south).

I'm going there also, probably in February, with people who ski far better than me [this is season 2 for me]. I've been somewhat nervous about it since I found out. I've done very few double black runs [one officially, two off piste that I felt probably qualified, but what do I know?], I usually spend a good chunk of the run either insanely focused or spending time thinking I'm going to die -semi terrified whichever thing I'm focused on. I'm curious how far they will try to push me there.

mountain layout is SUPER weird. i went there last feb and it was amazing tho. easy access to insane terrain and their terrain parks are actually pretty on point. 8.5/10. would go back in a heart beat

Cested butte is 4 hours away from me. I've skied there 2 times, its so dope! Pow and there parks are great! But they say they have a pipe but they don't.

I was there early February last season for the extreme comp and it was epic. Super weird layout with a ton of traversing to access the good stuff, but if you are an extreme skier accustomed to hiking it isn't really that big of a deal. Most of the time, if you traversed out to a decent pitch (Staircase, Teocalli, Third Bowl, etc.) you had to traverse back towards the lifts at the bottom (somewhat anticlimactic). Also the mountain seemed to go from super steep to super flat without much of a transition in between (not much intermediate terrain). One thing to keep in mind, however, is that the snow can be really hit or miss. We happened to be there when the conditions were all time so we had a blast dropping off nice 10'-30' cliffs with beautifully soft, steep landings. From what I've heard the park is decent. Actually, one of the Olympic halfpipe athletes came from there. I ski with his cousins in NM.
