Final Cut or Premiere

Tested out Final Cut for editing, liked it, seemed like less of a learning curve from Premiere, and it was a lump sum, which is a lot easier on my minimum wage, low hour work week during the fall and winter salary.

Most people have jumped ship to Premiere, why was that?

Any arguments in favor Final Cut or switching over to Premiere?

I would go with Final Cut Pro. I really love it and it's a great piece of software.

Just saying, fcp is extremely outdates, it doesnt even support MTS/AVCHD which is what pretty much every camera other than Canon DSLRs use for a codec.

But I do use a Canon, so is FCP a better fit?

No. Not at all. FCP is extremely outdates and runs slower on newer computers than adobe. FCP only used 4gb of ram, its a 32bit program, its old as fuck. Adobe is cheaper/easier to get for free and is 100 times better. I dont know a single person who uses fcp anymore.

Premier forsure, most versatile for plug-ins and and its compatible with so many other programs. Also the stock color correcting and stabilization is awesome

I used FCP last season and it was a total pain in the ass. Not only is it stupidly slow (I have 16 GB ram on my edited computer and it performed at the same speed when it was on my 4 GB computer) its incredible buggy. I lost count of the amount of times I was working and it randomly froze and "quit due to a error." With that all said, it is a easy program to learn and use, but its just total garbage! It also can't keep up with anything over a frame rate of 30. Im planing to switch to Premiere because the times I have worked with it, it has performed flawless.

FCP and Premier are damn similar when it comes to working with in them. I switched from FCP to premier like everyone else and it took a day or two just to learn the different hot keys. Literally the same idea different keys. Ether one will be just as challenging... or not challenging. I'd save yourself a step and just use premier. It renders and exports 4 times faster as well, and if you go to school or really ever have to work with someone else on a proj they will most likely be using adobe.

Just got creative cloud. I went from being a long time FCP user to adobe and yes the learning curve is a bit steeper but adobe has more professional features and is the industry standard at this point. If you ever want a job editing/graphics etc. you better know adobe. also i know some people hate this but with creative cloud you pay monthly and adobe comes out with consistent updates and changes so you don't get stuck in the past with old software and have to pay several hundred bucks to level up.

Adobe CC 20 bucks a month for students, $240 for a year that is a damn good deal. Just save up enough money to pay for the year and set it aside and use it only to pay your month. I did that last November and have no regrets.

Not only do you get premiere but also after effects, speedgrade, photoshop, illustrator and a shit ton of other programs. Also they regularly update so you're always using the best program.

My favorite part about CC is the workflow between all the programs. They really got it dialed and all the programs work insanely smoothly together.

Lets just put it this way, I have a huge boner for Adobe CC.

For what it's worth, I'm using a an 8GB RAM 2010 MBP and FCP is blazing fast. Premiere, on the other hand, it has a two-second lag with each click, no matter how much I "optimize" the settings.

On paper, Premiere is hands down better than FCP. But that's only part of the story.

On my 5 year old midrange mac, fcp is kinda slow, but it runs. I cant really watch my editing footage live, need to buffer etc, and then it still lags a bit.



On premiere on the other hand, works pretty well and I can just watch stuff, no lag! Admittedly it is quite a bit harder to use, but its worth it.



Go with premiere and learn it from the start, way more advanced and you wont regret it
