Quebec cyclist dies: Run over by the cops

QUEBEC CITY — Quebec police are investigating witness claims that Quebec City police pinned a cyclist to the ground and continued with their arrest, even as blood poured from his mouth after their cruiser ran him over.
Guy Blouin, 48, died Wednesday in the hardscrabble Saint-Roch district of the provincial capital.

Witnesses say a cruiser that attempted to pull over Blouin, going the wrong way down a one-way street just after 1 p.m., instead ran him over.

"He went under the wheels," said Bibi, who would only give her first name. She said the cruiser then shifted into drive and ran Blouin over a second time.

Witness Sylvie Dion described a "rough arrest" in which officers pinned Blouin to the ground by both of his arms.

Bibi added: "I saw the blood coming out of his mouth, he shouted 'I'm hurt.'"

The witnesses also said officers walked the man to an ambulance as he was doubled over in pain.

Blouin died a few hours later.

His death prompted an angry rally of 200 people Thursday on the steps of a church in the low-income district. Some held up signs that read, "police steal lives."

They allege the officers who struck Blouin put his mangled bicycle into their trunk and drove off.

Provincial police would not comment on the claims city officers altered the scene of the collision.

"Investigators have met with several witnesses, including police officers involved in the accident," said provincial police Sgt. Ann Mathieu.

A spokesman for Mayor Regis Labeaume said City Hall is monitoring the situation.

"He offers his condolences to the family of Mr. Guy Blouin," Paul-Christian Nolin said. "He trusts the (provincial police) investigation."

Yeah, I mean, so far the story sounds pretty fucked...

Dude rides bike down wrong way a one way street. Cops chase. Decide to run him over when he fails to yield, then run him over a 2nd time... then as he's bleeding out of his mouth and in obvious agony, proceed their arrest... then walk him to the hospital as he's doubling over...

...if he died in 2 hours of such an incident, he had to be very seriously wrecked. These cops are scum.

As a bike commuter shit like this is so scar. Sometimes the cops are the worst about it because they think noone will go after them and unfortunately they are generally right.

But bro, you're like immature and like shit, all cops are awesome even though there are multiple stories like this every year and no cop faces jail time. "fuck the police"? grow up.

In other news... a cop runs over a cyclist killing him and is cleared of all charges because he was checking an email on his computer. Because you know, all urgent business comes in the form of emails to officers.

And a more recent SLC incident in which the police refuse to release any footage or details of the event and the only eye witness reports state he was running away from the cops when he was shot. Autopsy reports corroborates these accounts. And yet soon after the only two reports are the police claiming he lunged at them with the sword and then after a long period of silence, is now telling people this... complete bullshit. This comes not too long after an unarmed white dude was gunned down just for acting absurd outside a store. Police refused to release the info if he had a gun or not for a few weeks. He was unarmed.

Why hasn't a law been passed that when officers do anything in the line of business, they should have a recording device rolling at all times that unless is present to the public? It makes perfect sense because if you're a good cop, you have nothing to hide. If this video isn't present, they should be held accountable as any other normal citizen. Citizens are recorded as much as possible and that footage is released without hesitation if present. Why isn't it the same for officers?

there was a story on Reddit yesterday about the cops arresting some famous black actress for prostitution, because she was kissing her white husband in public. There were pictures of her in handcuffs hysterically crying.

Pretty fucked up. You would think that anyone with decent morals and logic would be like, "Oh shit we just hit a guy, MAYBE we should get him EMS firstly." The media these days is all over bad cop stories to, how hard is it for police to realize they will be the epicenter of these stories if they start doing stupid shit...?

The biggest reason I won't buy a road bike is because I hate having to ride with traffic. So that story, and Ryno's to, really resonate with my reasoning.

Do cop cars in Quebec have cameras in them? If this guy gets off entirely free it would be a shame. I would never, ever, bike in a city. Too many variables. Hell, even rural VT roads make me nervous
