loganschnurCandide is a legitimate god not only for his skiing ability, but for Faction, Sammy could ascend to a similar position if he not only continues to progress his skiing but also in his business adventures
Heddiousone thought though, wasn't it "easier" to compete in all x games events back when candide won. not to diminish his achievements but the level of progression in park has gotten insane over the last few years and pretty much no one (except for gus maybe) does both pipe and slope in x games anymore. back when candide won it was more common to do more than one event.
NoddardI say apples and oranges but Sammy is on his way to becoming a legend no doubt.
ndyeSo does Jossi. Dumont and Hall did a bit back, I can see Torin doing both a lot in the future. Maybe it was a bit easier, but not much for sure. Thats part of what makes what Candide, Dumont, Jossi, Kenworthy and Hall did so impressive. Not exactly a weak list right there.
Tanner is closer to Candide than Sammy, and I think he might just be able to pull himself into a position similar, although their personalities are so so different.
hoodcrewwho do you consider to be a legend in skiing? Candide, Tanner, Pollard, ect. I cant really think of more than 3 or 4 guys who are more "legendary" than sammy... and he is just really entering the prime of his ski career, could easily become the T-rice of skiing. At least from what I have seen, quite a bit of the real ski was B-roll believe it or not.... at least there is even more impressive footy that he got last year
auskiSammy has won one x games discipline, candide all 3 (main ones) plus fwt, yet candide is probably still better known for chads and his film parts. I'm sorry but Sammy doesn't compare on any level with candide and on some such as legitimate free riding he's not even close
Yes Sammy has done a switch triple but most euro teenagers have as well by now. Candide changed the sport, Sammy hasn't
I still fucking love Sammy though!

Karma_PoliceThe three you mentioned changed skiing. Sammy hasn't. What has he done to progress the sport? I'm talking about ski design, attitude, all around ability, etc... etc.....
I'd argue Sage is more of a legend than Sammy. Also probably put Jon above Sammy with regards to legendary aspect too.
As far as talent goes he's undoubtedly a top 5 all around skier in the scene right now, BUT that doesn't equate to being a legend though.

hoodcrewLot of the segments he has put out I would say have "progressed" or changed the sport. the grand bizarre- one of the most well rounded seggys of all time, the fact that the dude went out, murdered handrails for one last season while tossing some insane BC jibs is impressive in his own right but the ender of the segment and movie is really all that needs to be shown...the cork 7 into pow off a 60 foot cliff, natural takeoff is one of the nastiest tricks ever. He is the best when it comes to taking park tricks and swag to the big mountains, and that seems to be the pinnacle of skiing, what most everyone works towards. Maybe he isnt focused on ski design but Sammy will prolly be putting out shit for like 15 more years so I wouldnt be surprised if he designs some crazy sticks, and as far as I know candide and Tanner didnt change up ski design all that much
JenniferGarnerPeople who believe Sammy is on the same level as Candide are ignorant and probably started skiing well after Candide disappeared from the scene after his broken back.
Just take this all into consideration.
Sammy had an invitational event, one jump and a big wallride... fantastic.
Candide also had an invitational event for many years with the biggest stepdown and stepup jumps that had ever been built for a comp. till that point and I'm pretty sure still to this day that remains true. On top of many unique and insane features that haven't been seen since and a railjam on top of it all where both put together resulted in many next level tricks.
Sammy won X-Games slope and a video contest which consisted mostly of BC jumps.
Candide won X-Games slope and pipe and him along with C.R. revolutionized pipe skiing and finally gave accreditation to skiers in the pipe by out-airing snowboarders by 10-15 ft. Candide also won a stop of the FWT.
Sammy is good at BC jumps and appears to be his major focus right now and has brought many new tricks that were only done in the park to the BC.
Candide was the first to clear the most legendary and one of the most dangerous BC jumps in skiing history. On that same jump he threw down a trick that was years ahead of the time in terms of BC jumping... at the age of what? 14-15? Even after recuperating from an injury that would end most peoples' careers, Candide still hits jumps that are comparable and some much larger and much more high consequence than Sammy's.
That's just 3 of many comparisons and reasons why comparing Sammy to Candide is idiotic. Sammy might be one of the best skiers in the game right now but there's a major difference between playing the game really well and changing the game altogether.

K-Dot.This.
Sammy to me is already legendary and the best part is he's only getting better. He definitely has better footage that he's waiting to release because he's making a two year film with tgr if I'm not mistaken. And that only showcased his bc side, his park segments are always very entertaining. That's what really separates him from a lot of other skiers, at least to me. Candide may have big mountain on lock but Sammy's style in the park is very noteworthy. This edit is a pretty good example:

LilTuneskiI'd put Sammmy in the top 5 skiers of all time
Karma_PolicePretty much this is what I was trying to get at.
Oh, and he WON the FWT, not just a stop, much more impressive feat.
As a big mountain skier that's pretty much untouchable. Is sammy a legend? Sure. Is he in the same category as candide? Fuck no.

Tanner
Candide

Sage

All time? really? You guys need to realize skiing has been around longer than the twin tip.
LilTuneskiSorry b i was thinking park riders. My list would go something like Candide, Jon, Tanner, Sammy and either Bobby Brown (first triple flatspin, first triple 1440 and 1620) or Dumont, no order. No need to get all holier than thou/OG on me, I know all those riders and a lot of the history from freeskiing.
reedwjAnd doesn't he have an x-games big air gold from way back in the day?
