saskskierComparing the police to the Gestapo and calling the US a 'police state' is an insult and slap in the face to anyone who lived in Nazi Germany, Soviet Union/East Germany, Apartheid South Africa, North Korea, etc.
karlmarxno, its a reasonable argument to make so that we don't get to that point. the nsa has more unchecked surveillance power than any of those regimes ever had, we have the highest prison rate per capita in the world, and you can apparently get arrested for nothing more than filming the police while on your own property. if the words "police state" don't pop into your mind at least a little you are living in denial. we might not be as bad as those regimes, but things have been moving in that direction for a while now. i would think people who survived those regimes would encourage citizens to scrutinize police action
.frenchyYou're caring too much. Why do you give a shit what the NSA does? Do you have shit to hide? Quit being a pussy, they're trying to protect your ass from terrorism and other crazy stuff.

JenniferGarnerOh, I didn't know we were in the military. What you describe there is a literal police state. A cop cannot randomly show up and start giving you orders. Regardless, these are SWAT. They are trained not to protect innocent civilians but to detain/control them so they can remove them as possible threats. If you don't "follow their orders" you are a threat, that's why they arrested/detained him. Wake the fuck up.

cobra_commander"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."
"nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law;"
JenniferGarnerYou forgot the scary man clause...
"These rights will be revoked at any time the government deems reasonable to stop terrorists/boogeymen even if there is zero evidence to suggest that what they're doing is helping."
Really though, they haven't caught one "terrorist" with this surveillance. You kids earlier in the thread supporting it are so ignorant to the world around you that its almost pathetic.

saskskierI'm not ignorant, I just don't care. Not even a little bit.
CONAIR_BUSCEMIAnd that’s why you are ignorant.
CONAIR_BUSCEMIAnd that’s why you are ignorant.
saskskierNot knowing = ignorance
Not caring =/= ignorance
CONAIR_BUSCEMII’m Frenchy and if you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to fear and why should you care.
Essentially what you are saying is that, "If I'm not doing anything wrong, I don't need to have rights."
YES, only the dishonest people have need of any privacy ignores a basic property of the human psyche. We
have a fundamental need for privacy.
If everyone’s every action were being recorded, and everyone technically violates some obscure law at some
time, then punishment becomes purely selective. This is where we are heading. We let our freedoms
crumble because of a false perception of security, in the name of protection from this so called
terror. Many are unaware simply because they are conditioned to believe the MSM and do not
have the criticial thinking skills needed to see what is happening before their very eyes. In fact,
all of this could lead to greater encroachment on our liberties in the future. The NDAA places domestic terror
investigations and interrogations into the hands of the military and in turn would open the door for trial-free,
indefinite detention of anyone, including that of an American citizen, so long as the government calls them
terrorists. These tasks can be completed by simply labeling the activists or protesters as terrorists, avoiding
the mechanisms of the judicial process guaranteed by the Constitution.
saskskierI appreciate the insight you have on the efficacy of NSA/CIA/FBI/Homeland Security surveillance. Since when do agencies announce every time the arrest someone?
I'm not ignorant, I just don't care. Not even a little bit.
JenniferGarnerWhy hello there, welcome to the real world where the police really don't give a fuck about your safety but instead care more about evidence of them violating a citizen's rights or hurting/killing a citizen without reason which would result in their buddies becoming fired or their department from losing money via lawsuits.
You clearly have zero knowledge about this issue and are stuck in your perfect bubble of where you don't care to look beyond what mainstream news is telling you. This has nothing to do with the actual police, this has to do with the carelessness of how they use militarized police forces in mundane situations... you know the cops who are trained not to look at you as citizens but rather potential combatants. That's what SWAT does. They're not out there to protect you, you ignorant fetus. They're there to neutralize threats.
Go do 5 mins. of googling for stories by legit sources on the ease and unwarranted use of SWAT and hand-me-down military equipment to police forces... or not and continue to look like a jackass. Either way.
karlmarxi really, really hope you're kidding. the 4th amendment was written with the exact intention of preventing this kind of mindset from taking over. i'll let the aclu sum the problems with that argument better than i could. https://www.aclu.org/blog/national-security/you-may-have-nothing-hide-you-still-have-something-fear
SideShowBobOh you're one of those people. The world isn't as evil as you think. Not everyone is out to get you, bud. I bet you believe in conspiracy theories too. Sure, I bet they sometimes use more equipment than they need, but why the fuck wouldn't they? If its available for them to use, and potentially help them, you have to be fucking stupid to not use the best equipment possible. They have no idea what's on the other side of the door, and I'm pretty sure they want to protect their lives to the fullest capacity.
Let me just ask you one thing.
If you were sent to go into a situation such as that, would you just say "oh it's probably going to be fine, let me just drive up and knock on the door" or would you want to be better prepared than the person inside, and have the best fucking equipment available?
I bet a cop caught you smoking weed or something
.frenchyWhy the hell did you double space your post you fkn weirdo... And the NSA's job isn't to bust little stoner kids like you, they're goin for bigger targets. So let them do their job, you still have plenty of your rights... Keep complaining, I'm sure they'll change their minds after they read your opinion on a ski forum.

CONAIR_BUSCEMII can’t argue with someone who hates freedom and loves oppression.
.frenchyYou're really going to tell me that I hate freedom? You're being a little bitch, the NSA shit doesn't involve you at all... Why do you give a shit about the rights of domestic terrorists?
You're an even bigger moron for thinking I love oppression.
.frenchythe NSA shit doesn't involve you at all... Why do you give a shit about the rights of domestic terrorists?
.frenchyGrow up and stop calling cops "pigs". Jesus.
That video wasn't bad at all..... They told him to stay inside and really weren't being douches at all.

JenniferGarnerDon't categorize people you don't know, it makes you look foolish. Oh wait, you supporting a militarized police for no reason at all other than, "well this MIGHT happen, you like never know!" already accomplished that.
Instead of refuting what's posted, you try to attack the poster's character... pathetic. You might be fine with a military-style police force which doesn't treat you as a fellow citizen but rather a potential threat and is unnecessarily over-equipped (via your tax dollars) and under trained to use said equipment but not everyone is a blind fucking moron with zero respect for their rights.
Again, its clear you've spent zero effort in educating yourself on this matter.
SideShowBobLollol sorry I see lives of police more important than money
