Lord_Byroni might not agree with you on this specific issue, but props for understanding that the entire idea of race is pretty much a fallacy. We have different skin colors, but were the same species. Like dogs. Different breeds, same race of animal.


I would want to go a step further than that, after all, some breeds of dogs are smarter, more athletic, have different personalities, I feel like most arguments from evolution lead to weird kinds of evolutionary racism. Maybe I am totally wrong here, just wanted to throw that out there...

Dogs are a terrible example. They are basically GMO's that humans have made to service our needs...

Collies are for herding...
Malamutes are pack animals...
Hounds are for hunting...

etc.

humans have far less differentiation than dogs do.

Exactly, that's what I'm trying to say...Can't really think of a better one, other than maybe black and yellow labs or something...

Dogs are literally just wolves that have been domesticated... like cows... or chickens... or pigs, etc etc.

Granted there has been some of this same concept applied when it comes to human slavery over the eons, but that has had far less effect on taxonomy.

They're actually a great example. They look totally different in size, color and shape, yet still all share enough DNA to have fertile offspring, making them the same "race" (aka species). They also share identical DNA with wolves. Its an extreme example, but its proof that just because 2 animals or humans look different, they are closer genetically than you would naturally assume.

If a great dane and a chihuahua are essentially genetically identical, it shows the ridiculousness of the notion that any ethnicity of human is significantly different from another.

This might come off as unrelated but here goes.

Im Pakistani, at least I look relatively Pakistani. Some white people are uncomfortable flying with people who look like a lot of my family does.

If someone who owned an airline told me that "white people are flying less now because of Middle Eastern travelers" I would not be like thats racist, how could you say that about Middle Eastern people, I would say, "wow, those white people are probably idiots."

You seeing what I am saying?

I see where you're getting at, but you're focusing way too much on the biological idea of race - which isn't a thing. Race =/= species.

This is the most asinine thought people have about controversial subjects "just ignore it, it will go away"

..the only way to prevent racism/sexism/whatever is by talking about it, having intelligent discourse and discussing it. Ignoring gangrene doesn't prevent it's spread...

But I think here the blame is being labeled poorly. The hawks owner, seemed to in these emails, it wouldnt suprise me if others were more clearly racist, seemed to blame white people for being the racist ones. He could have been more clear about it I suppose, but it was "emails emerge" and voluntarily reported this. Which is weird as well.

He may as well in my opinion have said: "These stupid white people who used to go to the games arent going anymore because they are scared of some of the black attendees, what racist fucks, and now I cant sell them tickets which is still important to this whole business thing, because white people tend to buy more of my shit"

The thing is, the population of Atlanta is like 55% black, 38% white and the rest is everything else...

I'd be willing to bet that any given night at Phillips Arena has this sorta proportion of fans, just as a hockey game in Edmonton Alberta is likely to draw upwards 95% white folks... because that's the population makeup...

If they were giving away tickets for free, then yeah. What is happening is people with the most disposable income should be going to the games most, buying season tickets and buying merchandise. That isn't happening, because a lot of those people with disposable income are white racists. Or maybe its something else, like just the Hawks suck, im not sure.

The things he wanted to change simply marketed towards attracting more white males, not pushing away blacks. Thats why his actions arent racist.

no seriously its like 1+1 in elementary school. If you don't worry about race and not see someone as a different shade, than their is no racism.

Truthfully people having "intelligent" ( i quote because your trying to have an intelligent conversation about race which is funny in its own right ) conversations about race, than your bringing up more bad thoughts and ideas. If you shut your white mouth their won't be any issues.

so shut up and go worry about things that will make you money.

I think that's the big difference. If he had said, "I hate all these blacks scaring away the whites, I wish they'd stop coming to our games" that would be different.

No, that's crap, because what's been instilled in our society is that It's 'white + 1' and 'Minorities - 1'. If you want to balance those equations, you must talk about it and have a civil discourse about it, no matter what ethnicity you are. As a white privileged dude, I consider it my (and thereby yours, and most other folks on this site) to check that privilege to make sure it doesn't get to our head and we just 'forget' that it's a problem in other places.

...my point is, it's easy to ignore race issues if you're white - they don't really effect you. It's also easy to ignore sexism when you're male. If you don't speak about these issues with outrage, you're going to in effect be part of the problem.

That is completely false. Just because you do not talk about these issues with outrage does not mean you are a part of the problem. Allowing that kind of emotion to enter an "intelligent discussion" gets in the way of discussing the real issue.

By the way, I am not against the discussion. Awareness is key, ignoring the issue will not solve anything either.
