Movie was so sick, did an awesome job portraying how fun skiing is. especially the fireworks seg. Magnus, W Berman, Shay lee and Boville were the individual standouts in my mind. Nonetheless, all of the shots were mind blowing.
I really liked it. LSM, Berman, Graner, and Krepala all crushed it. Will Wesson's part was maybe slightly less impressive than in years before but he had some absolute bangers. Overall there was a ton of creative and stylish street skiing.
Ski media is changing. Almost no hype on the L1P movie and all the am releases are looking banger. It's just about a level playing field these days. Especially when it comes to street skiing. Thinking 4bi9 HG skis and the bunch are all gonna be the most entertaining and progressive movies this year. While prolly having a fraction of the level 1 budget
The movie was sooooo sick! Magnus and Will berman had amazing segments. Khai had this one line, it was follow camed and it was like 10 features all in a row and he just killed it on all of the shots. This year the move had some sick filming too with incredible angles.
Hoodcrew is right. In other years this thread would have been multi-page on the day of the premiere with tons of hype . We used to ESPN or freeskier coverage about the event the next morning. Im pretty excited for the movie but I dont have that same 'dying to see it' type feeling anymore. Im not sure if the level of progression has begun to plateau or if we have just been desensitized to bangers from the glut of talented AMs out there.

As the general newschooler crowd gets older and older they start to drink more and more beer and being more and more distracted by all the little shred betties everywhere thus putting them in a place that they dont really remember this film...
They remember being stoked and will never forget the sweet smell of that special little someone dancing up really close. They wont remember the movie but they will remember that night at a ski movie premier that they got laid.

i cant speak for the younger crowd, but i dont remember a single thing about the movie, so it must not have been that amazing. it was a fun night though.

This all the way. I remember back during Eye Trips day, by this time it was a 5+ page thread with many differing opinions. People just aren't as hyped to pay for a ski movie I guess, it's unfortunate to see the stoke around Level 1's releases dropping each year to the next.

I thought it was sick, but I didn't like it a ton relative to their previous stuff. It felt a lot more bare to me, which might have been because they lost a number of athletes, couldn't do the sun valley park shoot, and superunknown was at snoqualmie. Just not as much spirit to it as previous movies, I think.

I wasn't at the premiere but I'm really stoked to see it when they come to Bozeman next week. I think this thread is interesting for another reason though because recently ski movies have been changing. Production companies have been shutting down and the stoke on recent releases just doesn't seem as high as it used to be.
The most obvious cause for this is availability of content on the internet. Companies are finding a way to make web content profitable in ways that a yearly film release can't be. A large portion of the ski community is also watching the free content on the internet as an alternative to purchasing content. As the quality of online releases goes up, more people see this as a viable alternative. This group has stopped buying ski movies because it's no longer their only option for finding ski content.
Even if the overall audience of ski movies isn't decreasing, (I don't know if it is) its decreasing relative to the size of the audience for online videos. Sponsors who pay for trips and different aspects of ski movies are seeing the shift in audience allocation and are likely cutting the amount they spend to get their athletes in movies and are instead spending it on creating their own web content. I don't know if this is why Level 1 had less money for this years movie but it may be.
So, the funding and audience of these annual releases are decreasing (or plateauing) which might be the reason companies aren't able to step it up every year. Audiences may get the impression that movies are getting stale because of this. It doesn't help that ski movies have developed into sort of a template (see the ski movie cliches thread.) Some companies even shut down in an attempt to avoid this "staleness." I've heard that this is one of the reasons TSP shut down. They didn't have the funding they needed to make a movie that stepped it up from Act Natural.
Personally I prefer ski films to online content because they can create a story or vibe that is much more developed with the longer time window. I was sad to see companies like Meatheads (and now Stept) end their line of annual releases in favor or shorter videos. I don't think the medium of ski movies is going to go away but I think it needs to change. There are a lot of new upstart companies but it has been a while since I've seen one of these amateur companies making the jump from the amateur level to the professional one. I think in order to do so, they will need to do something new whether it's the way they fund the film or the way they shoot it.
I don't know if what I wrote here is accurate because I am not in the industry but it would be interesting to hear from somebody who is.
I don't know, I thought it was one of Level 1's weaker films. I remember seeing the Eye Trip premier and being beyond stoked regardless of how little I remember of it. Ahmet's seg just blew my mind and the whole feel of the movie vibed with me better. This year I just wasn't really captivated by the movie, there were few times where I couldn't talk to my neighbor because I was too engrossed in the film. Maybe it's the lack of some core L1P riders like T-Wall, Ahmet, and Hornbeck who consistently have put out some of my favorite Level 1 segs. Maybe it's because between school and work I have 60+ hour weeks and I just don't have the energy to get that stoked on a movie, who knows.
Ski movies seem to be less and less important every year with pros and ams alike dropping banger edits all season long.
saw the movie.... Dave Crichton had the stand out best comeback of all time, so many shifties, butters and raw street shit it blue me away, it's like he never left. He is like a fine Wine getting better with age.

Unfortunately, he didn't have a full individual segment in this years film. He had a few shots in one of the "location" segments - forget where it was (I think Europe).
This makes me wonder what he's hiding from us...I know he's been out skiing a lot and filming with Faction here and there. Maybe something is in the works for the future we aren't aware of yet...

Eye trip was the first premier I went to, and I was so hyped the whole time. That movie blew me away and I just didn't get the same feeling watching Less. The contrast between the closing segs of those two says it all for me. Less is a great movie and I already like it more than Partly Cloudy after seeing it only once, there are loads of bangers, it's just fairly different compared to what L1 has put out in the past.
Props to them for mixing it up and putting out a unique movie.
