What do your parents think of freeskiing

if you still live with or even talk to them, what do they say to you and what do they think

my dad says, "going sideways on metal isnt real skiing, its dangerous and looks stupid"

my mom said "its poor mans skiing, they cant afford to go to hills so they go in cities" after i showed her a video of some urban.

at first they didn't get the idea why you want to destroy your expensive skis and yourself sliding metal tubes but now in these few years they have seen the joy i get from these things. If i climb up and down on this 2m high wooden hill on my backyard 3 hours straight then it must be something i really enjoy to do! so they think it's cool. Only thing they don't understand why the clothes need to be so big.

thats awesome, i wish my parents were the same. and haha they say the same to me when i go ski with them "why does your coat need to hang like that its gonna get in the way"

They love it. At first it just cared them to watch me go upside down but the past couple years they have totally accepted it and are glad I do it.

My mom supports me and thinks it's great I have an interest in a sport. When I ski with my dad he likes to watch people ski park and one time came with me through it to watch me which really made my day.

My dad likes to see aerial tricks. He thinks that they're super hard and the total shit and that rails are super easy and just like sliding on ice. Definitely heard some hilarious commentary during Sochi, They think it's cool that I do it but give me tons of shit if I heart myself skiing.

My mom thinks this whole "Free skiing" thing is kind of lame. She says it is nothing new, its all just skiing. She grew up shredding pretty hard in Colorado and apparently learned "double helicopters" (720's) off of natural features. She likes to tell me how she was way better than I am (she probably was). Now her skiing is much more layed back but I have still spun park laps with her, she 50-50's boxes with me and still has mean cossacks and daffys on the jump lines. She thinks urban skiers have "bad attitudes" but she is stoked on Delorme and anyone who skis deep pow, she also knows who Tanner Hall is and gets the ankles joke.

My dad likes to do the switch on rental skis and hit jumps. He also likes to make fun of skiing terminology. He likes to jib the hip, bop the grind and steeze the stunt ditch.

Basically my parents are super rad!

My parents kind of get it but not really. They still ask me "why are you skiing if it's summer" every time I'm out on my setup. But in the end of the day they support me fully.

My parents think it's buckwild as fuck and they're all about it. They'd love to get back out on the hill and shred with me but they don't want to spend the money/risk injuring themselves because they haven't gone in so long. Mom rode her ol' Nordica boots until they (literally) fell apart on the hill.

My parents were a little overprotective at first and worried I was gonna get hurt, and my dad insisted I take "park lessons", but the whole reason I left racing was to get away from programs like that. He kind of forgot about the whole park lessons idea as last winter went on and I don't think they really care, my dad seems to just be happy that I'm skiing almost every day like he did when he was a kid and not on the computer or something

My mom thinks I'm nuts but my dad thinks it's rad. He was a bumper which was the equivalent of freeskiing back in the day.

My dad aprroves more cuz he skis and also skied a lot when he was younger. He doesn't get to go much cuz of work but he enjoys skiing with me when he can and watching my vids.


My mom on the other hand...holy cow. Apparently if I look at ski edits before my bed is made then I'm destined to be a ski bum. She seriously thinks that extreme sports don't get you anywhere in life.

My parents support it, they say its a good outlet to express who I am, they think all the tricks and shit are cool to. Always happy when I come home with video or something. They think its pretty tight.

My dad can hit jumps switch and can slide downrails. My mom thinks its cool as long as you're wearing a helmet.

all my major injuries have came from park skiing so they are not stoked on that aspect of skiing. They both agree I should stop but I am too addicted. its weird because my dad was a ski bum

A few years ago my parents realized they permanently ruined my life after they bought me an issue of Powder back when I was about 8 of 9. That led to ski movies every christmas, as so on. My mom took a job in another town and I started homeschooling in 10th grade so I could work as a ski instructor at Alyeska. Then, because I didn't do anything but party and ski for 2 years I was sent to Windells Academy for my last semester of school so I could at least have a chance of graduating. Basically, skiing ruined my life, my parents aren't always happy with where I go or what I do, but they know I love it, and are all for it.

Also, I don't know them, but OP your parents sound like yuppie assholes who have always lived in the somewhat upper echelons of society and yes, urban is poor mans skiing, but poor men tend to have better character than the rich.

My dad is all about it. I remember one year going through the park, my dad on his old ass 1970 208 directional skis decides he wants to try everything. Firs hit of the day he launches off this straight up jump and tries to daffy, completely eats shit. Later he hits a C-box, and some how comes out switch on the thing turns around and rides away. Lastly he tried to 50-50 a roller coaster box. He makes it almost the entire way, but slides out sideways and slams. He's definitely adventurous, but doesn't always know his limitations haha. And mom is jus always freaking out about helmets

I take park lessons and its dope, we train for small comps together get cheaper lift tickets and have a room to sleep in at a bigger mountain near by. I have advanced so much and everyone is super chill. The coaches are super awesome.

eh its just not my thing, I tend to just fuck around all over the mountain and don't really focus on getting better too much. I'm sure those programs are fun but I have more fun going around and doing shit on a whim. I turned 18 this summer so I'm probably too old for most programs anyways.

I think I'm the only one who's parents aren't concerned about me getting hurt. I play baseball pretty much year round. In the winter I practice indoors. It's great and I really have it going for me buuuuut I find skiing a bit more fun. Last season I got 26 days on the hill and my parents realized this a flipped out on me saying I'm not committed enough to baseball. They think freeskiing is sick and they understand the terminology and the whole XL style but they hate with all there heart, my grandparents too, how much I do it. My mom even knows what a nose butter dub cork 12 is or like a misty 7 high mute! In the summer if I try to go to my friends house to tramp or ski the setup they go off on a 20 minute rant on commitment and how I don't do this for baseball. So that's my parents opinion I guess
