Brighton or Telluride

Trying to get back out west again with my dad and some friends to do about a week. I have been looking at Brighton and Telluride as my top 2 choices so far based off reviews I have heard.

Can u guys give me some more insight on the two and which one u rather go to. Ive been to Powder Mountain and Snow Basin 2 years ago so if u wanna compare them to those.

Just looking for any info!

I actually have no idea about Brighton as I've never been there, but Telluride is incredible. If you're looking to actually ski instead of just being a park rat it's the place to go. They have some insane terrain. But even if you do want to hang around the park it isn't that bad. They have a 4 jump line of decent size and quite a few jibs. One of my favorite places to ski for sure.

i have never ridden telluride but i ride brighton all the time. its a super fun, laid back mountain, but you really have to know where to go to get the best terrain, its not always super easy to find. the backcountry access from brighton is the real appeal of the place, that and some of the best rail setups anywhere. we also get more snow than telluride.

Brighton is like a steeper, rockier Powder Mountain and has as many rocks as you want to jump off. But I would choose Telluride if I were in your shoes. It's bigger and more dramatic, and probably offers your dad more terrain to enjoy. Utah ski areas are easy to get to, but Telluride requires a bit more planning and time. You can make Utah work on a long weekend, but not so much with Telluride. I've skied both on all time days and you can't go wrong at either. Telluride has a lot of above treeline skiing and their rope ducking policy is as good as it gets (but make sure you konw where you're going, plenty of places there require a rappel to get you down as well as iffy snowpack). BRighton doesn't offer quite the vert but you can hit cliffs all day with very minimal work. The town of Telluride kicks ass too, whereas you're likely staying in SLC or a very, very sleepy Solitude village if skiing Brighton. Either way, consider yourself lucky, both ski areas are as good as it gets. have fun!

If its between Brighton or Telluride, then Telluride.

But if you're going to Utah just go to Snowbird instead. Way better,

im a local to brighton and i love it. when theres some new pow you can access so many good cliff lines and pow stashes so easily, then when its sunny with no new snow brightons park is awesome and super killer to ski. i love brighton and its happy vibes all around and theres never a day i dont have fun skiing there even if i get hurt. its always a blast and an awesome new experience everyday. ive been skiing it for years and i still come across new spots that are awesome. ive never skiid telluride so i cant talk on behalf of them. but as far as brighton goes, thats my .02

what would pricing be like. Brighton seems cheaper and easier to get to because its closer to salt lake. On the other hand where telluride is far from denver but there is probably an airport closer.

Also it would be worth it take snag some powder skis right? looking rn to snag some cheaper ones to use while I'm out there cuz it would be cheaper than demoing/

let me know what u think about pricing.

Telluride for sure. Same as Dylhole, I live in SLC and have a Brighton pass myself. The terrain there is next level when you hit it right with a storm, and if not, there is amazing access, massively long groomers and the town itself is just straight up awesome. I've been to a pretty solid collection of resorts and ski places and Telluride is most definitely top 3, if not my favorite all together. From your parents perspective, it will feel way, way more like an actual ski holiday as opposed to hanging out in a town with 20 other cabins in it.

Here is a video I shot of a trip over there 2 winters ago, not my cup of tea on the editing part but it at least shows a bunch of what you can do in the area. Didn't hurt that we came to town with 50" of fresh!

Telluride is one of the sickest resorts you will ever ski. The terrain is unbelievable, and you can really find anything you're looking for. The town is awesome, and you will love spending time there. And more likely than not, you won't wait in a liftline the entire time you are there.

I lived in Telluride for 4 years and loved the skiing. You have everything from sweet park with one of the best setups I've skied, to some of the best hike-to terrain. Although the prices are more on the expensive side for food on the mountain, but overall, its defiantly in my top 3 mountains.

What kind of skiing are you trying to do? Never been to Telluride.

Brighton is awesome because they have everything. Steep slopes, lots of trees, friendly atmosphere, and there park gets better every season.

Snowbird all day. But I do love Brighton.

when i visited telluride i flew into denver and drove around 7 hours to get there. it was completely worth it, at least for me, and as an east coast dweller the views on the drive blew my mind. telluride for sure... and the fact that it's isolated is one of the reasons i love it so much... no lift lines at all and you really feel out there! i've never been to brighton, but telluride is a must. hands down one of the best ski resorts in the country. unfortunately it's very expensive, but it's also charming, friendly, unique, historic, and has some spectacular terrain... and the list goes on. the vibe i got there was insane. it's truly like nothing else, and absolutely worth a little trouble to get out there/pay (if you can afford it).

I've had a pass to Brighton for a few years now (Look at my name) and I'm leaving it for Alta this season. Brighton is great but unless you ski park or there's a storm rolling in then it might not be for you. With that being said it's a fun mountain, just on the small and flat side unless your down to adventure to Mary's or Hidden Canyon.
