I am a jeep man. If I didn't own a jeep I would have a Subaru. I have a 4 door Wrangler X unlimited and I couldn't be happier. What doesn't make me happy is the gas. I live in SLC so having Pheona is a plus because I can go anywhere I want, whenever I want.
I was recently offered a job in Jackson Hole so I will be commuting back and forth every other week. I have been looking at a Subaru WRX and I'm in love.
I feel like I would regret selling my jeep if I got rid of it but good gas mileage is nice. So my question is,
I am an extreme fan of wrx's. If it is a feasible option for you, go for it man! As long as you can afford it, I don't think you'll ever regret it.
That being said, you should take into consideration that wrx's don't get amazing miles per gallon. And 91 octane isn't cheap. But still, they're so fun that it'll be worth it
Dunno - I was in a similar-ish position when buying my first car, it was between the patriot and the forester - I went with the forester but not the xt. You end up eating a lot of gas to getIMG_2731.jpg up the passes anyway. I'm a little sceptical of the wrx being better on gas. It kind of eats gas and it's really easy to over-rev and waste it. You have to use the higher octane fuel, which will feel like a punch in your gut when you fill it right up. Then again, subies (especially that one) are sexy - but don't kid yourself, you're gonna get it because it's a beautiful car and it's going to be very, very fun to drive. It just probably won't be much cheaper than the wrangler.

With 15 mpgs when I'm lucky, the subaru is looking more and more attractive.
Both will do you good in the snow but evos will handle it better ;) but I would go wrx because well I have no liking for jeeps besides the fact that you can get awesome ground clearance. If you wanna try something new, go wrx or stay with what you know.
I sold my 2wd tacoma and had the same dilemma. I went with my wrangler and have been extremely happy with it. Except the gas milage is horrible with bigger tires and lower gearing.

If you like your jeep, stick with it. How long is it going to take to make up the difference in gas cost when you're going to be paying a couple thousand for sales tax and registration of a different car, not to mention what you're going to get fucked for when you sell your Jeep. You likely would get less than you want for your Jeep, and pay more than you want for the WRX when all costs are put into consideration.
Plus what others said...I know CO rapes you but out here you pay .30 more per gallon for premium.
If you're looking for better MPGs, get a FWD or RWD car with snow tires. WRX MPG still isn't that good either. But you're going to get screwed with taxes and registration and pay more than you want for the WRX and get less than you want selling your Jeep, so it really doesn't make sense financially.
I really wish they'd just stop making AWD cars. Yeah they can serve a purpose, but most people get AWD or 4WD vehicles and think they don't need snowtires. I'm so sick of digging out people's subarus in Breckenridge, and so are my friends. Cars still slide sideways and AWD doesn't help that. People can't fucking grasp that idea, it's frustrating. My roommates explorer slide down his brothers driveway in Breck while parked--twice. Cost 2k in damage when it slid into another guys parked car.
Or if you live somewhere like Duluth where the city is on a big steep ass hill. There are days where you definitely need AWD and snow tires to be able to make it home during a snow storm.

I made it with a fwd car all last winter in duluth and we had a shit ton of snow...
Although I was using a 2002 cli Taurus so it basically tanks through everything.
I actually looked at a newer forester as well. But as of now I am staying with my jeep unless the forester is so amazing. If anything I'll just wait till I have to go back and forth to get another vehicle.
I've driven my friends crosstrek and it's incredibly underpowered. A turbo or v6 would be perfect. I loved everything else about it though. Plus the ladies think your fly

Yeah ... I agree. It's a great fun little car to drive (my mum has one) but it doesn't pack a huge punch - the same is true for my Forester now, the turbo models in both cases would be much preferred.

don't think its the same scale or numbers across the board. super plus 98 is measured ron while we measure 91 aki. which is still like 98 on the ron scale.
I have a 1983 jeep cj7 on 33's as my dd. no power steering, no power brakes, an old carburateur, a 3 speed with a v8 transmission, I get about 8mpg highway, but I wouldn't sell my jeep if the world was coming to an end.... But maybe I just should get another car because lately I've been having to drive 300 miles a week, and jeeps + freeway will never equal fun. But still, never selling my jeep

I'm a Subaru fangirl through and through. I always have been. But, have you looked at the insurance prices for a WRX? If you buy the rex you better invest in a large quantity of KY because you're going to get bent over and fucked every month.
not much to add except my dad has 2012 wrangler 4cyl and it's a joy to drive, such a down to earth driving experience, even with the automatic gearbox, i love it!
