Candide continues to grow into my all-time favorite skier and perhaps person. Him along with Faction are great for doing this. A truly good decision. Thoughts goes out to everyone effected by these horrendous attacks and especially to the families and the employes of Charlie Hebdo.

I totally respect Candide's decision here, but in my opinion it's not the right one.

Living in Paris and personally knowing one of the survivor of the shootouts (the person who had to open the doors to the terrorists in fact) the only thing on my mind for the past 30h has been this event. It is required obviously to mourn those who lost their lives so tragically, yes, but are we letting those 3 extremists terrorists prevent us from seeing ootd2? Because that's what's happening.

The drawers that were killed yesterday not only represented free speech, but also humour, laughter, joy and generosity for a whole generation. I will not let their assassins have any more impact on us than they already have. Yesterday I cried, of sadness for those who I will miss and of anger for the absolute barbarity of this event. But today I laugh. I laugh in homage to the ones that died, to the drawers. Because I know Charb, Tignous, Cabu and Wolinski would want us to laugh. So here's my 2cents and why I think Ootd2 shouldn't have been postponed, rather it should have been played full volume in every freeskier's home taking pride in the freedom that defines our passion, just like those drawers took pride in the freedom that defined theirs.

Agreed. I understand his thinking but homestly this is what the terrorists wanted, an interruption of our lives and making people think twice about there speech. By doing this its almost like caving into the message they wanted to send and helping them achieve it. So, despite my great respect for candide as a person and skier, i will agree to disagree with his decision.

Yeah, there's this, but also the fact that social networks and information networks here in France are currently flooded with information related to the hunt of the terrorists and the attack(s), it is the only think on people's mind.

And I can see how the release would remain unnoticed because of the current events taking all the coverage.

People here are currently not in the mood for sharing skiing videos, so Candide is empathetic but also smart in delaying the release, if released today, it will most definitely not go viral.

imagine if you had a ski video coming out sept 12, 2001, and it was also made an official national day of mourning (i forget if that happened here officially)

would you release your video on social media, while the vast majority of the other stuff on there would relate to the attacks (in this case STILL GOING ON)? "hey look at me guys!"

no, you wouldn't-- not if you had half a shred of decency (then again, youre asking this question). releasing a ski video on time or not doesnt have any relation to ""giving in to terrorists"" or whatever. it's not political. it's skiing. it can wait. go entertain yourself with something else, jesus


oh, and yeah, like it or not, sponsors and candide's videos getting lots of hits is a consideration as well. you don't keep the sponsor money that fuels his skiing flowing by releasing your video while every other person in the country is watching terrorists attack

Never said anything about giving in to terrorists. I simply didn't see a connection. Seeing as I live in the US, far far away from the conflict, my empathy (and knowledge set) towards the situation is somewhat limited, and expectedly so. As such, thank you for enlightening me about the scope of the situation -- I was not aware it was on the proportion of 9/11. I think I'll shed my ignorance now.

It's the right thing to do. And it's also the smart thing. If this edit dropped the day after the shooting only diehard skiers would watch it. By waiting a week the general public will be more interested by then and Candide's art will get more deserving attention.

word, well props for a level headed response. no i know you didn't say the thing about giving in to terrorists, that was someone else, i was just adding that to my point

yeah i mean it's not on the same scale as 9/11 obviously, but in spirit it's very similar-- would not be a classy move for candide to release his video. and candide is all class!

To be fair, he probably doesn't have complete say over it. Im sure his sponsors have an influence on it, and as bad as it sounds they probably want to get the most possible views on it.

I mean that is why they sponsor him..
