Job vs skiing

Now I've thought about this for some time but just wondering what you guys would think. If you had a opportunity at a better paying job, but it was in an area that you couldn't go skiing, or would have to drive an excessive amount to do so, would you take it?

Well you could always work enough hours to take a week or two trip to somewhere where you could ski.

short answer, yes.

long answer, you will need money to ski, money to buy skis and gear, money to pay trespassing fines, and most importantly money to pay me for this advice.

take the job, save money and go on a ski trip.

Skiing is a rich mans sport. Unless your planning on living paycheck to paycheck as a ski bum...how could you pass a career advancement for the possibility of no skiing? You don't even know how many hours your going to be working.

Trades man. Work trades.
I work 2 weeks in 2 weeks off as an electrician in a mine. I can do whatever the fuck I want on my days off. 2 and 2 is a hard shift to find, and I actually turned down a job that would have grossed me $22/hr more then where I'm at just to keep this shift.
And to anyone who says trades are hard and shitty, today, an overtime day, I made a hammock and slept waiting for breakers to trip underground. 12hrs of OT to sleep, yes please.

No. I'm not moving to Texas. I'd rather be a weekend warrior, and make a bit less, than need to get on a plane every time I wanted to ski.
But I'm only in highschool so what do I know.

I work trades also as an electrician, hard but good work. And yeah I see some of your points, you could always take ski trips, though at this point in my life I'm going to be going skiing like every week/weekend so if I can't live close to a mountain I probably wouldn't do it. Maybe later in life if I had a family and kids I would move but personally I would suck it up and take less money but be able to have fun

It would have to be a lot better money (assuming the same job satisfaction). I want a job so I can ski, bike, hike, etc. If my job takes me farther away from that, it's unlikely that the extra money will make up for the days missed. After all, outdoor adventures are what I hope to buy in the end anyway.

I imagine this will change in a few years if I end up with a family as I'll need to make sure others are taken care of, but if it's for personal happiness, I think I'm way more likely to be happy closer to skiing than with more money.

Depends on the career, pay raise and where I'm moving. I guess I could put up with living in say the Bahamas or Figi and having a killer job but not being able to ski. Wouldn't move to Mississippi to get a small raise, move up in the chain of business and never be able to ski. Really depends on your life goals man, if you want to ski, then fuck that new job. If you want more money then take the job.

Skiing isn't a rich mans sport. There are plenty of people skiing regularly that are doing fine. I guess it depends on your definition of ski bums.

And personally no. I'd rather do what I'm doing. I'm never going to get rich financially building parks but it makes me happy. I enjoy going to work, and I would and have done it for free before. I love/need skiing. That's my outlet, my passion my life. That time on the mountain is as essential to me as as food or water.

A job might pay well, but if my heart isn't in it, what the hell is the point. Money is great, it helps in many areas, but I don't need to stockpile tons of money for later in my life. I'm not trying to live broke but I'm definitely trying to live.

Money is great, but it sure as hell isn't everything.

I wouldn't do it. Skiing is what makes me happy, and I don't think I could get that with some extra money.

If you are happy with that job and feel good while doing it then I would go for it.
But if you only doing it for the money and don't feel satisfied with your current state of happiness I would choose skiing over anything.

But is not life really all about finding that one job that does not suck so you can ski and be outdoors every day.

id say if its less than 5 dollars per hr diff then go for the ski job. you can always get a better paying job later, when you get old and your skiing ability takes a shit

All depends on what makes you happy and your level of satisfaction of skiing vs money. For me money and materialistic possessions has never been a big part of who I am. I'm in my last year of school and when I leave i'm planning on going to uni to become a teacher after my gap year and move down to the snowy mountains or close to there. If money makes you happy, that's fine but as cliche as this is, money is infinite and infinite never ends, thus you will never be happy with money. But ehh that's just me.
