Me and watts on ns were talking and it seems like there's a thread on this subject everyday: J SKIS OR ON3P.

Most of the skis talked about are j skis 90 and 98 shape and ON3P filthy riches and kartels.

Anyway we thought it would be a good idea to make a thread about those skis since they seem popular.


So if you are interested in those skis come and ask on this thread. We will help you pick out the best skis for you.

Also you can discuss anything j ski vs ON3P related.

Fuck J skis they didn't ever send me a stupid sticker like they said AFTER I talked to one of the guys!

I actually had a conversation with a kid who ordered one 6 moths ago and never got it. I prefer ON3P anyway I don't need a sticker now I'm over it.

Yes. Pretty much same build but ON3P uses 3/4 edge wrap and j uses full edge wrap.

What makes on3P a better ski company than j skis besides the team and you didnt get your stickers? wondering since ive heard alot about both companys and was looking into j skis. tell me, Why should i get the filthy riches over say the whipit? Like seriously are they really that good?

My Chronics just broke so I will likely be getting new skis at the end of this season. Looking for something similar but more durable. Any suggestions?

Good idea of a thread although not very solid responses/reasoning. Personally, I've rode both j skis shapes and filthy riches. The 98 j ski shape closer relates to the flex of filthy riches and the 90 shape seems more flexy. Honestly I loved both skis they both ski amazing but since jskis does have a bit thicker edge ill probably stick with those for having better durability and longevity. One thing awesome about the filthy is it has a greater rocker profile and is light as a can be although j skis are easily just as light if not lighter. Both brands are sick and know how to make killer skis anyone would be happy with either.

DP*jskis does have a bit thicker edge


Just for clarification, ON3P and Jskis both use the same edge - 2.5mm x 2.5mm.

Oh word. Well both skis rock, go with whatever has a better price point for you and that fits your type of riding as far as stiffness.

I definitely had a lot more fun on the ON3P's I tested.

I rode a bunch of pairs (Kartel, Steeple, Billy Goat, Wrenegade, and maybe a Jeffrey) from the fleet at the SIA ski test, and rode a pair of Kartels all summer at Hood. Super rad skis, and it was even more fun watching guys like Karl, Magnus, Maxi, and Sander really push them to the limits.

ON3P gets my stamp of approval!

Have any of you guys skied J or ON3P pow skis? My main touring/pow ski has been the 2013 Hoji and I'm looking to upgrade. It seems like everyone on here talks a lot about J or ON3P and im interested. Recommends?

Glad you came to this thread! Since the j ski pow just came out not many have ridden it. Also, do you want something directional like the Hoji?

That would be ideal. What I like most about the Hoji is that its construction made up for its pretty long turn radius, so I felt really comfortable in trees.

Gonna have to go with ON3P on this one.

I just found J's to be too soft for me. ON3Ps are stable yet fun, a huge thing for me in a ski.

The steeple 112 would be awesome! Also the wrenegade 112 and billy goat could be some solid choices as well.

Alight, so I'm going to break the ON3P love train here and put in my vote for J Skis.. because I own a pair (Newschoolers 178cm).
I can't really compare it to ON3P skis because I'm too poor for to own multiple skis, but I can say that I'm 100% satisfied with the Newschoolers! And my customer service was on clutch, got my stickers fairly quickly (like under 4 weeks, which is pretty good for FREE).

Honestly the skis are pretty damn durable, I mostly did all mountain with them cause the hills parked wasn't fantastic and they handled everything even though they are soft skis. I did try buttering onto a box and didn't press hard enough and ended up skiing straight into the box and there was no damage to the ski, plus with accidentally skiing over multiple rocks and no major damage should say something about the build quality.

Most of the posts and recommendations for either ON3P's or J skis are based on bullshit speculations and assumptions.

"I heard..." Yeah, I can read the specs online and get a "feel" for the skis too, but that doesn't make me educated enough to try and influence others on how they actually ride. Personal biases aside, if you have no real experiences to add, why bother? It sure doesn't make you look well informed if that's what you're after.

How many in here have actually ridden any of the skis being mentioned, let alone both brands to actually compare the two?

Stable, yet playful is the best way I can summarize ON3P's skis as a whole. By now, I've owned a large portion of their lineup in one variation or another over the years and no other words can sum it up better.

ON3P all the way. I own a pair of Caylors and owned a pair of Jmos last year until they got stolen, and they have been by far my favorite skis I've ever ridden. I plan on buying a pair of Kartels this year to replace the Jmos.

Having been in the on3p factory I can attest to the quality the strive for. There are only a few other companies like it. J skis is not close to level of quality on3p is producing. If you want a quality pair of skis that are going to last you, go with on3p.

I have not yet seen a pair of J skis in person, but I have ridden and owned over 13 pairs of ON3P's (I can't quite recall how many pairs I've owned right now) so I cannot honestly compare the build qualities between the two brands. Different materials, production methods, design elements, and so forth will definitely produce different skis. I do know that ON3P builds skis that have far exceeded my expectations for performance and durability and for that, they have me as an exceptionally loyal customer.

What I do want to know is what makes you so certain that J skis are "not close to the level of quality on3p is producing?"

Honestly I got ahead of myself, I don't have enough experience with J skis to attest to their quality. I will however stand next to my opinion of ON3P being a supreme quality.

No worries dude.

My real point is that this thread, and Gear Talk in general, have gone completely to shit lately with all of these "reviews" and opinions of one ski being superior to the other for whatever fucking reason comes out of OP's ass. If you (speaking generally here) haven't actually ridden the skis, it's ok to still participate in the conversation, but it's better for everyone if the reviews come from people who actually have time spent on x brand ski. We all ski a bit differently, and thankfully have different tastes and styles. What works for me, may not for you. Individuality is a damn good thing in this world. The bottom line is that reviews only work when they are honest.

Since J skis haven't really even been around that long...and it's summer, it's crazy to me to see all of this knowledge on their skis and durability compared to their competition, whatever that may be.

Sometimes it's refreshing to know there are some people on here with half a brain. For that, I commend you.

I highly value skis made locally and hood being my home mountain I can get over zealous about defending ON3P's honor haha. I totally agree with you though, we need an unbiased stand point on this with experience on both skis.

You'll love those skis, Rossi too, they've been making skis for literally over 100 years so you know, they know what's up! but I'd go with K2, I mean they've sold hundreds of thousands of skis so they must be the best or they wouldn't be in business anymore, I wouldn't ride anything but Volkle though, those people speak German and Germany makes awesome cars so obviously it's the best quality! Same with Head, those guys have the best racers in the world on their skis, if it's good enough for them, they're good enough for me! I'd go with Line though, they've been making sick skis for almost 20 years now and I know a ton of people that love those but if you've ever tried Atomic, you'll never go back, they're the best because they don't make snowboards 100% focus on skiing just like Armada who is obviously the best too because Henrik is my favorite rider and look at what he does on their skis, he wouldn't ride them if the skis weren't awesome . . . It's just skiing. Don't rip into a companies. Ski what makes you happy and tell others about it.

Thank you j. I Wanted to make this thread to clear up the forums and help people out, not just see who they prefer. Obviously they like ON3P, even tho there's only like 3 peeps who have ridden both.


Also j is right on the fact that there are a lot of awesome skis. We are living in a ski community where every company wants to be the best so they try to make the best. It might make our decisions harder but they are keeping us in mind. Also thanks j for helping out the freestyle portion of our community so companies like ON3P can even exist.

Dude same i signed up for a sticker pack like a month ago never got it. i like some of jskis but i always like on3p. But in my opinion on3p seem more professional

Just send us a SASE to the factory and we will return them with stickers. Same deal since we started. We've actually been stickerless for the past little bit, so we have maybe 50 sitting waiting to go out (so if you sent one in recently and haven't got one back, that is why), but send one in and it will get returned (sometimes slow, but we will eventually get to it).

Honestly, the vast majority of our time is spent building skis, so it is hard to find time to do much else.

For sure. J also has better things to do like build skis rather than stuff envolopes. I bet if we did SASE to j instead of getting them totally free of cost we would receive them faster.
