How do you do rails

Ok I'm pretty new to park I can do 3s 5s and 7s I used to snowboard and I don't know why I ever did but anyway I could 50 50 some rails on a snowboard but I made the smart choices and decided to ski I want to learn how to do rails do you need to keep yours skis flat on the rail or do you put your front foot up sort of and dig your front edge in any tips will be helpful

I don't know if other people were like this too, but I thought that it'd be easier for me to do it left foot first and I kept falling backwards. One day I just tried it the other way and I got it the first try, so don't be afraid to try it both ways.

The biggest thing is to keep your legs shoulder width apart, to look at the end of the rail and to pop a full 90. This will keep you balanced in all four directions. So long as your legs are far enough apart, you shouldn't have to worry too much about leaning too far back. You should keep your front ski on it's inside edge however I never really had to pay attention to that, because it just happened to be that way in the first place.

If you aren't already, get comfortable with boxes first.

You said it, most people don't look at the end of the rail. This is essential for greasing the rail

Pretty much everything in this thread. But also gear, have your edges blunt and detune them, this will allow you to slide the rail easier and you'll be less likely to catch an edge.

I sorta lean on my front foot a little but don't lean back or your skis will just slip out from under you but it's easier if the kicker is big enough that you can just pop straight on instead of coming from the side, or at least I think it is. And try boxes first just to get a feel for it

Best way in my opinion is to just go for it. Try small rails first. The best way to learn something on skis is to keep try it yourself and learn a way to do it that would be the best for you. But here are a few tips if you need them. Approach the rail with a foot on both side and hop up on it and make sure to do a full 90 so you won't nut it. Make sure to keep your feet shoulder width for the most balance. If you spin left onto the rail you will probably end up falling off early switch to the left but after a few more tries you will naturally stop your rotation with your front ski to slide the whole rail. Also no matter what kind of rail flat, down or up, always have your body at a 90 degree angle to the rail so you don't catch an edge or fall backwards. Hope this helped.
