Its called the history channel effect

That was my favorite channel at one point. I love history. Would have studied it if I went to college. Got a perfect score on my history regents(some state exam shit in NY)

Now I could flick on the history channel and the only watchable program is that pawn stars thing.(not sure if that's still on) Even that isn't a history program but other than the drama they add to the show and the lines they feed that chumlee douche it's watchable for me.

Everything is shitty reality tv. I can get down with deadliest catch because I find it interesting for some reason and have been watching it since it came on. Also it was on before they developed their new formula for tv shows. Even the gold shows on there might almost be watchable when nothing else is on but they add all this bullshit and drama in there.

Why I haven't missed having cable for the last few years. Have it now where I live for the winter/summer but working so much I don't have much time to waste watching it anyway.

SFBhistory channel used to have sweet 1-2 hour documentaries on historical events and those were sick. i was really into WWll stuff back in the day. but now history channel is a miasma of shit

For sure Thank god for netflix. There are some great docs on there. Ken burns has some awesome ones. There's one called "The war". I haven't finished that one. I'm more into early American history. I'll watch the rest but I've seen a bunch of stuff on it already and can wait a little bit.

Some other good ones he did.

The Civil War
The National Parks: America's Best Idea
The Dust Bowl
The West
Prohibition

All of those were amazing IMO. A shit ton of other good docs out there but I like these ones because they're thorough. They aren't rushed for time and are able to really dive into it. If it's your thing you'll love them, if not you might be bored to shit. Good way to kill some hours though. All of those are 9+ hours long. I think one of them is like 14 or 15. Well worth it though.

I wish there were more doc/mini series made like that. Trying to condense history into an hour/ 1.5 hour film doesn't really work.

I had to waste a tone of time resting after I broke my brain. Watched the 3 seasons of swamp loggers and that was decent. Reality show about people doing their job but for the most part they just kind of let things ride instead of the dramatic music and somebody being mad at someone and this other chick wants this guy but that guy smokes rocks or whatever happens in some of them.

The more they try to make shows "interesting" the more unwatchable they get. I can deal with semi boring when I'm killing time but the fucking bullshit drama just kills me.

I can't watch any of them. When did it become acceptable tv format to recap the last 10 minutes of a show after every fucking commercial break?? Only to show another 5 minutes of the actual show, then commercial break and another recap of what happened before the break. What the fuck, it's like they assume we are all mentally retarded. History plays a lot of crap these days. Though I do really enjoy pawn stars ( I know its scripted) as well as counting cars. I think danny the kount is the fucking man and makes some awesome cars.

H2 plays a lot of actual history shows though for those who have that channel.

It is 100% scripted reality. They put people playing themselves into scenarios to create drama and a plot. Then, they tie it all together with a corny inspirational quote at a staged family dinner. No different than watching a soap opera, which is fine if they're into that sort of thing.

I like the millitary channel...it's kinda an offshoot of History but mostly Great War docs, and shows about the millitary. Alaska Bush People is quite the joke around our Forest Fire Base. We quote the show almost everyday. It's just so dumb you have to laugh at it.
