Laptop for College.

I don't know if this should be in here, or NSG but i figured people in M&A might now more about computers than people in NSG, regardless. Classes start next week and i am in need of a laptop.

I would love to spend around 800 for it, but if it seems like the perfect computer for me i wouldn't mind spending 950, maybe 1k but i doubt i want to spend that much.

i'm pretty clueless when it comes to computers, i know enough where i can tell if a computer has powerful components or not, just the main thing i'm worried about is reliability. I want this computer to last me all the way through college without any major performance issues. I don't want it to be a slug by my senior year.

Anways, what i'm looking for most is:
Around a 15 inch screen.
BACK LIT KEYBOARD IS A MUST.
4th Gen i7 processor.
probably 8 gigs of ram..possibly 12? idk.


I just want to last me awhile. This is my first pretty major purchase and i don't want to buy a hunk of shit.

Also, I do a lot of editing and i want this to be able to handle rendering like a pro, and possibly some basic gaming.

Try looking into slightly used macbook pro. I got a new one a while ago for school and editing and it runs fine on just 4 gb of ram running after effects and Premiere simultaneously. Mine new was something like 1500 but i'm guessing you can find cheaper stuff in you look hard enough. Also i think i heard a while back that vegas using a shit ton of ram. I would recommend getting premiere. try searching used macbook pros. http://www.macofalltrades.com/MacBook-Pro-15-inch-G-2-0GHz-QCi7-Early-2011-p/mbp-15-20-e11g.htm this was one of the first ones that came up.

I just got a new macbook pro from best buy for $1400 then with a student email you get $100 off. It has all of your requirements except the screen is smaller. From the little knowledge I know of computers i'm pretty sure macs also tend to last longer then other computers. Plus the virus ware is built in. That would be a little more then your budget but in the long run it may be worth it.

I'm pulling a couple more hundred out of my ass and i'm going with a lenovo y50. All of my friends have told me thats an awesome computer for what i want. The specs are appealing to me so i think i'm gonna pull the trigger on it soon.
