remind you of something?
minus the cover lines that include choice words such as: turnt, gearwise, s#!t and dough

.frenchyNS will probably delete this thread because it has the word 'freeskier'
but that cover is fuckin sweet
Online_NinjaWhat is really crazy is how much Freeskier is starting to become similar to powder. Every year they have been pushing harder and harder to be a freeride magazine vs. a newschool one.
Online_Ninjacome on - you can't possibly ignore the fact that they're so similar. Plus that is powder's gear guide from last year, and Freeskier's gear guidde from this year. Its like they sat down and tried to copy it.

skodeo7I could be wrong, but in my opinion it seems like a Buyers Guide would be the most likely to be picked up be someone on the fringe of action sports, maybe a mom or grandparents looking for a gift for their kid. It only seems right to appeal to that demo. Who knows? That probably has nothing to do with it, just an idea though. Honestly it's most likely just a big coincidence. Such a sick shot regardless.
Lord_ByronI think they're just piggybacking on the slackountry and touring surge. Which is fine, but it kind of seems like park skiing might be slowly going by the wayside.
Not that it wont be a big deal, but im betting big mtn competitions are going to be more popular, even rivaling the x-games.
JenniferGarnerIt won't be as popular as the X-Games... ever. Simply because the X-Games events are much easier to attend- which is the most important factor to the success of any event. Park skiing will always be growing faster that big mountain comps. There's no comparison. Also much less people can relate and appreciate what big mountain dudes are doing, unlike flippies, spinnies and rails where a lot more people can at least appreciate it by relating it to the various other extremeee sports people are already fans of.
Lord_Byronnever say never, shit can change much faster than you think. I think events like linecatcher, cold rush and travis rice's BC thing will grow more popular. I dont know that thought, but saying park skiing will ALWAYS be the biggest and most popular branch of skiing is pretty short sighted.
JenniferGarnerAny sport that's big enough to fill stadiums, a majority of those fans are fat/lazy/stupid. Big mountain contests will never get to that level simply because there are not enough active potential fans and the fat/lazy/stupid fans that we need to become that popular will never attend the events.
Lord_Byronno shit, no one can attend an event in the middle of some BC range. But thanks to things like the internet and good cameras they can still make money and be popular.
JenniferGarnerIt has yet to happen for any comparative sport in that fashion. The internets isn't doing crap because SPONSORS don't care about that. They and venues only care about attendance numbers. Dreams about big mountain skiing becoming a massively popular spectator sport is laughable. ha ha ha... lol

Lord_ByronESPN made its money from sponsors, and trust me when i say it wasnt for the TV ratings. Most of winter x-games viewers (and potential consumers) were watching it on the internet.
ESBJust thought I'd point out: "attendance" has absolutely nothing to do with the success of the Winter X Games. Given that the X Games are put on by a TELEVISION CHANNEL, the attendance that matters is how many people watch it on TV; not how many people show up at the venue. Offhand, I can't think of any ski event that actually generates any income from on-site attendance.

JenniferGarnerWhere did I ever write that I was referring to the X Games?
Mousseau^
JenniferGarnerWhere did I ever write that I was referring to the X Games? Let me save you some time, I wasn't. Your last sentence is the main reason why skiing hasn't grown to the popularity that the other person. Again, think of every sport that's massively popular. Before TV ratings, all sports have massive attendance numbers which is the single most important factor to not only building a massive fan base to where televising it makes sense, but also more places are willing to host these events at their venues. My main point is that accessibility to the event site and the watch-ability of the event in person are huge factors in determining the success of any sport.
JenniferGarnerAll the TVs/computers in the world don't matter if not many people attend to watch them in person.
MousseauJust to be a pain in the ass...
