louie.miragsthe thing that bothers me the most is the U.S. has killed thousands of people as well. Not just bad guys either. So, many civilians...
I can't prove it but it seems as if they are using 9/11 as an excuse to be there. They say if we're not there then round 2 is coming. But, these terrorist say they just want us to stop. We're over there making sure we have access to oil. We kill thousands of people in our fight for resources. And then wonder why these people hate us. The see us as terrorist as much as we see them as terrorist.
.MASSHOLE.Exactly. But people seem to forget that when thousands are being massacred and are the target of a conflict. As I said, it is a lose/lose situation. There is no simple answer.
We don't need the access to oil there. The majority of US oil now is no longer from the Persian gulf.

louie.miragsThey want something over there.. something needs to give
.MASSHOLE.There is nothing over in the Middle East we need anymore. What is over there are national security threats that come in the form of Iran, Pakistan, and groups like ISIS.
louie.miragsI just don't believe everything they're telling us
.MASSHOLE.About what? What do you think we are missing?
We sure as hell are not there for oil, we wouldn't be going back in to take over Iraq again, and we aren't going to touch Syria with a 10 foot pole.
Only reason to even be slightly interested besides being a "good samaritan" is national security interests (ie prevent more Al Qaeda-like group hotbeds) because we do not need to get openly involved in actions against Iran or Pakistan yet.
louie.miragsThe part that I hate the most is we justify killing thousands of people to protect our country. Women, children, innocent men... It is crazy. It is 2014 and we can grow body parts from stem cells, but we can't settle shit without killing! It seems insane to me. Not to mention our president ran on the principle he was going to stop the wars... No surprise a president lied but the fact we're in the longest running war (or military action since we haven't claimed war) our country has even seen boggles my mind.

Granite_StateI think Switzerland would disagree with you.
Granite_StateI think Switzerland would disagree with you.
.MASSHOLE.But they aren't pacifists by definition. They believe in armed-neutrality which is entirely different.
More Swiss military foreign policy/military tidbits:
The Swiss require every male citizen enlists in the army.
They currently have a military presence in Kosovo and the Korean DMZ zone. While they are unarmed, they are peace-keeping forces
Granite_StateJapan is another country that is currently pacifist by nature (the recently released the ban on military intervention but between WWII and now they have been quite pacifist)
And aren't neutrality is about as close to pacifism as you can get.
louie.miragsYou understand they are killing Americans because we've murdered thousands of their citizens right? Everybody seems to miss that point. I am not on their side we just need to get the fuck out of THEIR country - not exterminate them. Let's utilize our resources and technology.
KillaSeasonI don't know man, extermination seems a lot easier and more effective in the long run
CONAIR_BUSCEMIYou talk and write as if debating the rules and reasoning of the war topic as if a cribbage game. You mention death and slaughter (potential or actual) as if a review of a new TV series.
Safety through conditioned illusion of the reality of a situation will not cut it any more. Ever dream you could fly, or walk through walls, or walk down the highway into oncoming traffic where the cars would not hit you?
Well, dreaming is safe. Illusion is safe. Hard core "reality" can have lethal and unintended consequences for those that allow themselves to be entertained.
Arrogance for a show of deadly force at the cost of much blood and lives cannot be allowed or tolerated. This is not entertainment folks, it is the choice between life and death.

loganschnurAnd if I had to choose between exterminating a race of people that either a. murder others senselessly or b. put up with it, or allowing it to endanger American lives, I would put glass that whole area and start over. Halo style
CONAIR_BUSCEMIIf you, your family, and all of your friends were sitting at ground zero, do the circumstances created by others in that location warrant a lethal strike on ground zero?
If the answer is yes TO THAT QUESTION, than bombs away. If no, then stand down and resolve, or assist to resolving if you choose. Resolving the circumstances that moved the question to be asked in the first place.
War is the bully coward’s way of confrontation without the use of effective true intelligence and brilliance applied for mutually beneficial coexistence.
loganschnurPeaceful resolution has been attempted, and it has failed. The definition of insanity according to Albert Einstein is to "try the same thing over and over again and expect different results". We have tried peaceful resolutions, and we have tried military intervention. Your preferred method has been attempted, as has mine, and they both failed, so maybe both options have lead us to a third, if barbaric, method.
AT-ATYou have to remove ignorance, but that's damn near impossible. Blowing people up only creates more anger and allows leaders to be like "look how bad they are, now if we kill them our god will embrace you even tighter." or some shit like that.
It's really a hard thing to do, and have no theory on how to make it work.
loganschnurBut the better question that you have to ask yourself is, "How do you think this problem will actually be handled by the authorities." We can all have our own ideas and wishes on how it should be dealt with, but when it comes down to it, our opinions don't really matter in terms of how WH will choose to deal with it. In the end, this will end up endangering more US lives no matter which way we choose to handle it. We put boots down in Iraq, they will suffer casualties. If we try to "sanction" ISIS, we will continue to face the threat of terrorism and senseless death to innocents. In a perfect world, there would be a peaceful resolution, but with extremists, it will never be peaceful.
ScaredwhiteboyThey have no allies, no military training, and no weapons. They are not a threat at all.
I say let them have their way with Iraq. We've already tried to setup a democracy there once and the Iraqis didn't care enough to defend it. Vietnam and Afghanistan have proved that trying to rid a foreign land of guerilla fighters is an unwinnable war.
JenniferGarnerThe U.S. has killed and destroyed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people over the past 60 years in order to control the economies of multiple countries on every continent. ISIS takes back a single country that the U.S. invaded and screwed up royally under false pretenses. As soon as Christians are being beheaded, everyone is sickened and outraged and can't understand why they hate Christians/westerners so much.
This is the world we live in, you morons. The only difference between the U.S. and ISIS is that the U.S. is much better at either hiding or displacing blame about their horrendous actions. ISIS doing this was predicted and was one of the opposition's main points to not invade Iraq under false pretenses.
Plain and simple, the U.S. has gotten away with too much shit and has brought this upon themselves- which is why you see so many westerners joining the fight and many Iraqi soldiers not attempting to fight back. It sucks what's happening but is a strong lesson to why the U.S. needs to stop fucking around with other sovereign countries. I guarantee the weapons used to capture the journalist were U.S. issued as well.
.MASSHOLE.I think you need to check the facts. ISIS was a big deal long before Christians were being beheaded. ISIS was a concern back when they were behind numerous terrorist bombings in Iraq during the mid 2000s. However, they rose to international prominence in 2013 when they became involved in the Syrian war. But, in Syria, they were fighting armed factions, not murdering defenseless Iraqis and other nationalities.
Comparing the US and ISIS methods is like comparing apples and oranges. The intent of the US military forces is not to go and kill civilians indiscriminately despite what has happened in unfortunate events. The US military is not forcing the Christian religion upon local civilians. It is no longer the 1800s.
-benedettoOne American dead and some of you want to destroy the Middle East? What percentage of the Middle East is ISIS? My guess is not a lot. Think about what you're saying. Middle easterners are human too..
JenniferGarnerI never wrote they were only a big deal now, you illiterate Budweiser plate. Re-read that scribble.
If you think US military forces don't kill innocent citizens indiscriminately, then you need to re-up on your history. It's well documented if you look beyond the past 2 years and outside of CNN and Fox. The U.S. past leaderships have committed so many acts of horror... but in light of that, the U.S. is technically the most benevolent empire in the history of the world. That's not so bad but stop being so fucking ignorant.
.MASSHOLE.You indicated no one seemed to care until now which is wrong. Perhaps my wording was wrong.
Secondly, I said their INTENT is not to kill citizens indiscriminately. Big difference. ISIS intent is to go into countries and kill anyone who does not think, act, or dress like them. I know the US troops fuck up and kill citizens indiscriminately and hate it.

.frenchy"illiterate Budweiser plate" what the fuck lol
Dude, honestly shut the fuck up. Nobody in the US military goes out and shoots random civilians for no reason, and if they do, they face the proper consequences. It pretty much sounds like you're just trash talking the US Military.... Not cool.
JenniferGarnerOne example of many... get learned, you ignorant sheep.

MidsWell... I'm no expert on the situation but they seem to be pissed about the U.S bombing attacks.
I'm not un-American but let's be honest here. We are bombing the shit out of Syria and killing numerous amounts of civilians. If some asshole from another country killed your mother or child on a bombing run wouldn't you be pissed? The execution of an American journalist is also the complete wrong way of doing things. The poor guy was filming and reporting about the massive amounts of destruction in the middle east and had no right to be killed.
I can see why they're mad and you have to remember, America was in the same situation a couple of hundred years ago...
This is still a terrible act, but I do agree with pulling out of the middle east as a whole. We've got our man and have no right to be there.
You have to understand that ISIS controls a lot of Syria, and getting involved with them would lead to another war.

BombogenesisLol, the terrorists don't hate us because were on their soil... That's a farce. They hate us because of our western values and because a majority of us westerners are not Muslim. It has nothing to do with resources, their fucking holy book says right in it multiple times that non Muslims should be exterminated. They're following it verbatim.

Dustin. For you to say that the US is comparable to that is pretty foolish.
To put it in perspective, Al Qaeda recently broke all ties with ISIS because they were too brutal.
McLeodan elementary understanding of US foreign policy and the broader ME turmoil on display in this thread.... what ISIS is doing is fueled by two primary conditions and both have little to do with American involvement in the region... start by asking what proxy war is taking place in the ME currently.... ISIS suicide bombers blowing up Sunni mosques and killing dozens of Sunni tribesman at a time surely isn't because "we are in their damn country again" ...
