Pros going to Australia

I've noticed through social media heaps of pros are going to ski at Perisher and aren't coming to NZ. At least not yet. The park there is pretty good atm, but nowhere as good as Cardrona. it's way harder to get too as well. Has the death of Snowpark started to have consequences, or are they just bored of NZ for now?

Australia is definitely more expensive- check the exchange rate.

lift ticket at perisher is 120 a day... its cheaper for an aussie to fly to nz for a week and ski then go to perisher for a week

Exactly, last year in Queenstown there were more Aussies there than any other nationality.

Do you really think Perisher is going to give out free passes for international riders? No, Perisher is stingy as fuck. Perisher doesn't give a fuck about if you medal at X games or not, they only care about what the general public will think. So they only give out free passes to their ambassadors.

I think he meant that somebody else pays for their tickets not them, which if you're ballin as fuck and killin it is probably true

I reckon Perisher is bankrolling at least some of this. Russ Henshaw grew up skiing Thredbo around the corner. He was part of the Thredbo race team etc. Then, a few years ago, his blog/twitter/Instagram flicked to just perisher perisher perisher

He hasn't even referenced Thredbo for ages apart from doing the One Hit Wonder (which is at Thredbo, and the public park isn't bad at the moment either)

I think it's pretty clear that Perisher is chasing the park rat dollar and Thredbo are happy to let it go and be more free ride oriented

Flying Bobby etc out and giving them passes would be a drop in the ocean for Perisher

yeah hard some ski company needs to have a demo at turoa and get all their pros to come up from wanaka

I just want all their autographs. Oh well. At least we'll have all our parks dialed in soon and turoa will be poppin with the locals.

Charles Beckinsale, thats why, one of the best park shapers who used to work for Thredbo, before Russ got bought off by Perisher and took Charles with him. I feel Perisher is pretty dedicated to their park where as everywhere else is just dedicated to the general public. Now that 'Snow Park' is closed, NZ only really have Cardrona. Also most NZ resorts are pretty hard to get to, where as the roads and villages in Auz are a lot better.

I reckon Charles is worth more to Perisher than Russ. Maybe it was the other way. Charles builds the Whistler parks in the summer including the big ones they use for the MSP shoots etc and he's turned the Perisher park into something that overseas athletes and Aussie kids want to experience

His departing act at Thredbo was to build the best jumps we've ever seen for the 2012 One Hit Wonder... I'm pretty sure that event still has the only triples on skis thrown south of the equator and the athletes described landing as like they'd never left the ground (video of the jump: http://youtu.be/2mG10r7kJU8 )
