Traditional or wide... new park skis

yo, need some help deciding on new sticks for next season, really torn between going with the traditional camber park ski or going wider and rocker. i love bombing and buttering around on everything but still like being able to stomp and not wash out. biggest concern with going wider is them being heavier and more swing weight.

id either go with k2 shreditor 102, nordica soul rider, and the long shot faction candide 2.0

or on3p presters.

another worry with shreditor and soul rider is durability, cause i know with presters they will be super bomber just like my other on3p jeffereys,

age: 17, 5'10'', 155, skied for 13 years now.

if you have a pow ski, i would most definatley go with a slightly skinnier ski ( prester ) but if you dont have a deticated ski for fresh snow i would go with the shreditor. i dont like a super wide park ski, as they feel sluggish and are slightly harder to spin.

ive also found when riding wider skis, they chip a lot more cus when your just in your normal stance, (skis are fairly close together)but when riding wider skis and your just standing there, the noses and tails are constantly touching. so basically the tips and tails are grinding/ banging together at all times. thats just my 2 bits worth, im probly the only one who has this problem lol

If you're going to get a wider ski for the park get a ski that was designed with the park in mind. Like the al dente, Kartel 98,and the candide 2.0. I would stay away from the shreditor 102s if you're worried about swing weight. Rocker is tons of fun. Butters are easy and the rocker (and extra width) make all mountain cruising and jibbing lots more fun. If you're finding yourself washing out often it's most likely something wrong with your technique and not your skis.

al dentes are noodles and by you saying this shows you know nothing, that is the typical ns ski suggestion. just because henrik rides them doesnt mean they are good, i fucking hate them the times ive ridden them. kartels have way to much rocker for my liking and what i want the ski for. the rocker is amazing for all mountain but not for park in my opinion, obviously some will disagree. and in my experience factions durability is shit. ive had 2 homies destroy factions in a short time frame. and try throwing flat 5 on a 70 foot jump and going to big, in turn slightly over rotating on a softish ski and not washing out. thats why im worried about the wider, softer, and rocker'd ski not my technique. thanks though.

yea, i have jefferys but i feel like a wider ski would be so much fun cause even when i take a lap on my jeffery's they are more fun than my punx. and i feel like i should change it up from the typical park ski i always have. but then i worry about the swing weight and duribility since it wouldnt be on3p cause i dont want kartels. i guess i just have to figure out what i want more.

and i totally get what your saying and i noticed that to, haha its not just you. thanks g

Well actually Al Dentes are pretty firm aside from the noses. Underfoot and the tails are not really all that soft.

If you're hitting 70ft jumps on a regular basis then I would definitely look at a narrow full camber ski. Something like the Presters would be perfect or Armada AR7's would be a good choice two and slightly cheaper.

Or if you do want a rockered ski just not so wide maybe look at Filthy Riches? Bit narrower underfoot than Kartels meaning they'll be easier to spin but still playful.

Lastly don't be a stuck up ass hole and tell people they know nothing. These people have taken their time to try and help you make a decision so don't be a douche to them.

You're obviously arrogant, and that is not why I suggested them, in fact I agree with you saying it is a typical NS suggestion. I don't even like Henrik and I believe that he's overrated. If you don't like rocker in the park then why are you even asking this question? Just get the damn presters already.

Check out B-Paul's segment in the EF Camps edit in the video section, he's skiing the new APO rise up BC's, the rocker on those looks class and he rips the park in them.

Please don't say I know nothing, also trying to help.

What type of skiing do you do?
Personally i like to take it easy, rarely going over 3 on jumps and doing lots of butters and surface swaps . I find that unless I am trying harder tricks that day, I preffer to use my pow skis in the park. I think it's more fun.

Get something with rocker camber rocker that has the multi dimension side cut which brings the swing weight further back and get them at least a size bigger than you would. I went from 176 cambered park skis to 185 rmu apostles which are meant for backcountry and not even symmetrical and had the most fun I have ever had on a pair of skis and they also were the first pair that haven't straight up snapped in half on me after a month or two in four years. And despite being bigger and heavier I could still warp into the future as easy as any time traveler. This year I got the Wisco which basically is a 105 underfoot park version of the apostles and were designed never to break with bases like Nemean Loin skin and a super I jibby flex which are in my opinion the perfect ski. Bottom line: once you go fat you never go back and even if you compromise swing weight/regular weight a little it will most likely smooth and slow down your style a bit and make it a little harder to just huck.

You are definitely talking about a couple of skis that are all VERY different. The Prester is made to be light and extremely durable and stable, with a low swing weight, for our team that needs something strong like that. It's an entirely different ski than the soft, rockered, very damp shreditor 102.

If I could suggest another option, I would go for the Kartel 98. This is Karl Fosvedt's ski that he designed as his park ski. It's an awesome ski, 98 underfoot, and you will probably have more fun on it. If you plan on growing, go for the 181, if you think you're about done, a 176 wouldn't be too short for a park ski!

yea there definitely very different but thats my dilemma. i don't know if i want light and stiff-ish and on3p durability, or sacrifice weight, durability potentially, and have a softer ski.

I've looked at the kartel and it looks super dope but just a bit to much rocker for what im looking for if i go that way. thanks

I really think you should go and demo some skis if possible. I think this will be the only way you can truly tell which you prefer more. I don't really think you can get much more help from here because you will just get 50% of people saying wide and rockered skis are the best and then you will get the other 50% saying traditional narrow cambered park skis are the best.

Maybe look at the Nordica OMW? They're fully cambered but 89cm underfoot which is reasonably wide for a park ski. This way you have the stability of a cambered ski so hitting big jumps shouldn't be a problem and you won't wash out but at the same time you have the versatility and playfulness of a wider ski.
