How did rap music get into skiing?

Just a question how rap music got into skiing? Like its a white boy sport so I am just confused how its so big in skiing.

Well rap and hip hop are up-beat so they sorta get you "pumped up" and give you a fast intense feeling I guess this goes together with skiing pretty well as its an intense sport. I personally dont listen to music when I ride but I know rap or anything hip hop is a favorite to riders for this energy and excitement music gives

its not that hard to figure out. people listen to it to either get pumped... or listen to rap cus its gangster... and skiing is gangster....

Let's not forget it was hip-hop that started it all. Back in the 90's when the underground hip-hop legends were killing it and the music eventually made it's way into many of the classic ski movies from then. And those songs are still, to this day, making their way into edits on NS.

first dude I remember putting the hip hop style and image on in a big way was tanner Hall when he was young. Mik d is probably up there too. Really tho when free skiing was still coming into its own and videos were king, hip hop was what everybody put in their edits and it just kept goin from there.

-Freeskiing is a young sport with a lot of young participants
-A lot of young people like rap
-Rap music was put in the early edits and it just kept going from there

OP is so racist. Just because the majority of freeskiers are white doesn't mean we should all be listening to lady gaga and skrillex. A lot of our style is influenced by hip hop culture. ex: XXL hoodies, tall t's, Baggy snow pants. Also, I've never met a skier that doesn't like rap.

Hahaha the kid isn't a racist you are being way too sensative. If you look at the park vs powder post for music most people didn't pick rap. I know more that don't like rap than do.

but ya steezey jibber is right on point its just how it is i love rap and alot of younger people do to pluse whenever i here a good rap song it gets me pumped to go skiing

I sense that there is a population of people trolling on this thread right now, but my honest answer would be because skateboarding used it so much, and we all know that there is a connection with free skiers and their hobbies of skateboarding and such.

I used to have RATM in my discman with little portable speakers well over a decade ago when I'd shred on a spot on bike. Would get me pumped up to try different tricks, get up after I ate it trying to slide somethng, and just keep me going.

People listen to rap in all kinds of sports. It's not that anyone listened to rap and though "OMG ITS LIEK THEYRE TALKING ABOUT ME ON THE SKI SLOPES"

In addition to the pump up factor, rap has a consistent and very defined beat. If you're trying for style it gives you a different flow through the park. Maybe not for everyone but a lot of people ride cleaner when fucking out to some og hip hop.


Also if you dabble in the greens well then, yeah.



Who cares, just do it.

I did also which I'm sure a lot have, but I listen to different rap when I ski than when I'm doing other things that aren't skiing but sometimes do when I am skiing. Yea
