Video Editor

Every editor will do exactly what you want, I'd start with iMovie.

I have CyberLink Power Director 12, I'm liking it, its easy to work with and has much more features than iMovie or Movie Maker. It's only $45, but only works with PC.

Videopad Video Editor is pretty good and it's free

Don't pay for anything unless you plan on selling your work. I'd say start with the suggestions above, torrent them or whatever, once you find something that works for you and you could see yourself taking the time to master, look into it further.

I personally use Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, I have a torrented version and will continue to use the torrented version until I can bring in money through my videos which may not be for a while.

I've used Sony Vegas which I found outdated and confusing to use.

Final Cut is similar to Adobe however many have gone from this to Adobe due to some poor development by Apple.

The simple and beginner softwares are Windows Movie Maker (trash) and iMovie (junk, but not trash)

I agree, Adobe Premiere is a pretty solid program all around. Also make sure your computer can handle editing HD videos.
