If you have helmet mount, then you are most likely a gaper.
You look like a fucking teletubby. The footage does (almost) never get good. Nearly all of the gopro users who have headmount, are literally gapers. Unless they are freeriders/offpiste skiers, their footage can get awesome. Of course there are a few exceptions in my statement.
"most if the time"
They don't use headmounted gopros every day they ride, like gaper mom and gaper son... I would say that the majority of the users are in fact "gapers". (Except "freeriders")
Chest mount for the win. I hate the extra weight on the helmet, I do look like an douche with one on the head anyways. The newer GoPros actually have really good picture quality and framerates for what they are (but nothing close to DSLR or better). I've always wanted to do a POV urban edit...
eddy9Head mounts feel so weird. Pole mount or chest for the win.
Ohh, and only use it if it's a pow day.
For some reason even though pole mounts are when you can see those awesome face shots I don't like too much pole mount shots in an edit. I like seeing the ski glide through the powder.

if your actually good ya it looks a bit odd but they dont consider you a gaper and who cares if the shot turns out good then it was worth looking like a tellituby
I think it's just that intermediate/advanced skiers with gopros look like gapers because they aren't doing anything cool and are filming anyway, and they wear gopros as often as expert skiers.
TheSeaCaptainI got mah setup for next year already.
how has this setup been working for you? i feel like the dslr's footy might make up for the added weight, but i opted for a sleeker approach this year (see below). my dad says if i really do well this winter we can think about adding the two 3d setups like you have
I don't think many of you are considering that there's a high chance that a lot of people who use gopros are visiting the mountain on vacation and don't get out to ski very often. The best camera to use to capture moments on the hill is with a gopro and if people want to use one to record those moments then all the more power to them.
In total honesty, I'm not very good in the park and when I'm there I probably look pretty gaperish but I wear a gopro often. The reason I wear it is to capture those little moments with friends or when I find a sweet spot on a run. I've gone through tons of footage over the years that I've recorded and it never gets old listening to and watching my friends and I mess around, just having fun.
The skiing may not be the greatest but the fun times I can go back to are well worth looking "gaper" for.
So next time you label someone a gaper for their sub-par skiing and gopro remember that they probably aren't trying to throw together a banger edit, but are probably just recorded those "moments".
I think it's time to put this gopro/gaper thing to rest.
park is one thing, but filming pow can be a challenging and time consuming. when theres a meter of fresh good luck getting me to wait for a filmer to set up the shot just right. pretty hard get a shot of things like certain couloirs. go up to peak chair on whist or whatever your equivalent would be. sure everyone seems to have one, but its definitely not just the gapers.
At my mountain we play game were if you see a gopro you hit the person next to you like the slug bug game during holiday break your arms are super sore.

for me its not having a gopro that makes one a gaper its having like 2 gopros, and TONS of accessories. especially when they have a gopro case. that's just stupid
