Question about building a simple manual vacuum

If I were to build a pump similar to the one in this video but add the end to a shop vac instead of a hose, would it be able to create enough suction in order to suck up a small pile of dirt or crumbs? Or does a vacuum seal need to be created in order to build suction?

I sold vacuums for a week so it sucks I know this answer. You need airflow coming from outside the actual suction cuo to create enough force to get any dirt or other particles to get sucked up efficiently.

If you just vacuumed out a chamber, then repressurized that, you'd have enough vacuum for like one second of crumb removal. You'd need a motor and constant flow of air.

If you're bored you could poke a hole in the chamber and sit there and pump as fast as humanly possible, which might create enough suction to slightly move some small particles on your carpet.
