Minnesota skiing?

Alright guys, I just got word that I might be moving to Minnesota before ski season. From past experience, where are the best resorts to ski. I'm not a park rat so don't give me places that you think only have a good park.

Lutsen has the best skiing here. Up on the north shore.

Next biggest I think would be spirit mountain.

Where are you living, the cities?

Spirit mountain sits above duluth and lutsen is like 1 1/5-2 hrs north along lake superior.

Plus if you want to get into glades, pow, cliffs etc you can drive over to Mount Bohemia in the UP of Michigan which is like a 3-4 hr drive from there I think.

Well if you are living up in Duluth it won't be as much of a problem as the cities. I live in the metro, and literally everything if ice.... everything.

Duluth. All the mentioned things above PLUS if you ever wanna go to a sick park you can head over to granite peak. AMAZING park

That whole area up there gets the "lake effect" from lake superior and generally gets better snowfall. I mean it's not going to be blower powder like out in the mountains but better than the rest of the midwest.

Down in the cities or if you go to the western part of the state it can become really icy.

I ski spirit mountain in duluth a couple times a year and it's really fun, I would ski there If I were you.

Uhhhh unless its snowed recently the duluth area still gets pretty much just as icy, especially because it can get windy as fuck there

The snow up in the lake superior area is literally ice half the time because its so humid there. but the park is decent.

If your not a park rat then the only place that will kind of suit you is Lutsen and maybe spirit mountain. Lutsen has a lot of good trails and some decent tree runs plus they get about 160in on average which is really good for Minnesota. But trust me if you are use to say out west or even out east resorts, then you will get bored very quick here. The hills down by the cities are nice and most are open 12 hours a day but if you arnt skiing park I don't know honestly what you would do.

Duluth is a great town! Spirit, Lutsen and Bohemia are by far some the best places to ski in the Midwest.

You will also be a couple of hours away from the places like Blackjack and Indianhead. Also check out Mont Du Lac. Its a little resort just south of Spirit, but filled with tons of good people.

If you into surfing...
I would also suggest picking up a Longboard. 6/5/4 wetsuit, 7mm booties, and 7mm gloves. We can get some pretty good waves up there.

In Minnesota: Lutsen is best, Giants Ridge is second best, Spirit Mountain is third best, nowhere else is worth going.

In the Midwest in general: Mount Bohemia is best by far (it has terrain better than most mountain ski areas and 1k vertical feet). Of the places I've been to, Whitecap is second, Blackjack is third. Whitecap and Blackjack are really close to each other so that's convenient. From what I've heard Granite Peak is good but I haven't been there. I think Porcupine is good too but that's close to Bohemia, and if you're that far into the UP there's no reason to go anywhere besides Bohemia.

pls. Mount Bohemia doesn't have the slightest of competition. Comparing Mount Bohemia to anywhere else in the Midwest is like comparing Jackson Hole to the ice coast.

I've only surfed a few times but I'd actually be really interested in learning. Surfing seems pretty sweet.

Lake effect snow = powder 4 days at spirit. Or at least that's been my experience. Duluth gets far more snow than any other city in the state on average. I'll probably end up going to college there next year.
