WHY THE FUCK ISN"T THERE A THREAD ON THIS


Heavily armed police have shut down Ferguson. There is a media blackout. Arresting reporters. The Missouri Militia supposedly has boots on the ground.

This is very fucked.

The real issue here has nothing to do with the grand jury's decision. The real issue is the fact that an entire community feels like the police are out to get them. It's not unjustified (check out some of these numbers http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2014/08/10-insane-numbers-ferguson-killing). The real thing we should be talking about is what conditions led us to be in the situation that we're in today. Not about how MB was a 300 lb "thug," not about how the protesters in Ferguson are "savages" (honestly NSG, I'm pretty surprised and disgusted at how much racism you're willing to produce/tolerate), but what could lead a community to react so strongly to something like this.


Ignorance? I believe we are all just saying there is no place in a society to be looting, assaulting, and destroying, no matter what color.

I was just in the south in Mississippi and Lousiana for over a week TRUST me the poor black people were more respectable and educated and smarter and more upstanding and ethical than the poor white trash people.


And rioting like this is no big deal in the big picture. It should be a right of all people to gather and sometimes a small minority in a large crowd acts stupid and enabled and causes trouble. Do you want cops to shoot rioters?

I was in the Vancouver riots in 2011 after the hockey game when my Bruins won. Just took my Bruins jersey off when I walked out of the arena and didn't sweat it and enjoyed watching the rioters walk past from a lobby bar at a Marriott and mocking them through the window in B's gear. Riots are awesome that riot was the shit another fan gave me a ride to my hotel so the cabs and public trans being shut down didn't inconvenience me either.

Yes, let us take the word of one man who was in the south for an ENTIRE WEEK. Obviously it means you have enough experience to give an educated opinion on the topic.

Rioting is not a big deal in the big picture? You realize that with these riots the message that Michael Brown's parents tried to get out will be lost? The mainstream news will cover the riots and neglect the importance of the changes the parents want to instill.

Why do they still have tear gas canisters that slowly release the gas? people just throw them back. They should use ones that quickly release it so there's no use in throwing it back. Hopefully there will be some highlight reels tomorrow.

I just started trying to follow both cnn and fox and it seems to me like fox is trying to focus more on the story part and cnn is really switching between the live shots and the story but focusing on the live riot shots now

i mean i would consider myself a fairly conservative person but people on fox news are beyond crazy and literally have no chill. coop is on site and has been doing shit like this for years, meg is some crazy newcomer who cannot handle her surroundings and has been moulded into a fairly damaging reporter similar to bill oreilly. i mean my dad is even more republican than I am and he finds oreilly embarrasing

Listening to the scanner it sounds like these "protestors" just want vengeance and not justice.

Wilson noted that Brown had cigars his hand when he first approached him. Brown also had the yellow socks, shorts and red hat that matched the robber. Wilson knew brown had just robbed the store.

These people are embarrassing. Nothing more to it really. I have no opinion on the current case because I have not been following enough to weed through what are facts and what is made up. But, Utard is making a good point here. The community should not feel like it is them verses the police, however that is what police work has turned into. Are they protecting and serving the community? Or is it the government henchmen verse the rest of the community?

I'm not trying to ignore it. I'm just not trying to have it shoved down my throat. I realize there is a problem, the problem is cops shooting innocent people.

Police need to be held accountable. I completley understand that putting on the uniform means one day they may not come home. But you still need to be held accountable for your actions. If Wilson acted with probable cause, he was innocent, but there are so many shootings that go uncovered, unnoticed, and nobody cares about those.

When the media pushes racism, it doesn't help the racist underpinnings of our society you talk about.

I am the youngest in my office by at least 10 years. Everybody is >35yrs old. All of them are obviously siding with the police. I say obviously because it seems like such a old school opinion. I do not know all of the facts and i'm not going to pretend I do like everybody else. But, what is evident is how racist they are. They wouldn't admit it, but all of their reasoning for being ok with a cop killer is them being racist subconsciously. Every point is "well he was robbing a store" or "look how these people are looting they're animals" and so on. No talks about self defense or the law on when somebody can shoot. All of their opinions tend to be based on race.. Maybe it is the media putting these ideas in their head idk but the mentality of the cops verses the community is horrible.
