Taking off switch

Whats the proper way to do this? I've been focusing a lot on having more weight on my heels when i pop but i'm not sure it working. I have a habit of catching the inside edge on my right ski when spinning left.

What do you mean catch your edge? Is it when you are in the air? On the jump? Or idk
I don't think much of it, I just stagger me skis and go for it

Pop off your right foot if you spin left, don't spin so early, and practice. you'll get em.

i pop and somehow my edge always clips the takeoff when im in the air

A while back when I was first learning 3s that always used to happen it was either not going fast enough or popping early

Never ski backseat, even when skiing switch. I feel a lot of people catch edges when taking off switch because they have their weight over their heels instead of centered and forward.

check out some of twall's earlier videos and watch how he takes of switch. He has a ton of forward pressure in his boots and keeps his chest up. After I started realizing this, switch takeoff a become easier and a lot less scary.

Same thing applies to when you're carving switch too.

the most important thing is to be calm on the take of and make sure you don't start spinning to early. the reason you are catching the lip of the take off is because you are starting your trick to early. another thing is making sure you still pop even though you are switch. i also find it a bit easier to take off a bit on my edge , i feel i have a less chance at catching. hope this helped

I need some advise too...I can rip groomers all day switch and air knolls no problem, but I'm scared out of my mind to hit jumps switch.

Find a small just and switch1 or something on it. Work your way up to bigger jumps and bigger tricks

yeah just start small and don't over think it. when i was learning to hit jumps switch i would just hop to switch late in the in run so that i didn't have time to over think the whole thing and it worked really well

ALSO someone mentioned earlier catching their edges. this is a super common problem that people have because they jump the gun on spinning when taking off switch. wait a split second longer to start spinning

I find patience To be the most important factor when taking off switch. Try 180's and work your way up. Patience patience and practice

ive had this problem too, just don't take off early. Wait right until your at the lip of the jump to set.

Your forcing the spin way to early. When you feel yourself takeoff then spin.

this used to happen to me. ride into the feature on your toes, when you start to ride on the lip, shift your weight slowly to your heels, this momentum will become your pop onto the rail. practice it to get the timing right.

start with ride on boxes, then ride on rails, then take it to a rail set up urban style

no actually. my whole body is in the air but the tip of my ski is still on the jump.

If that's happening the way I'm imagining it, you're not popping at all and just riding it out...I could be wrong though.

Anyways, pop more and then spin. If you try to spin right away that's gonna happen. Pop, then set, then spin. If your still catching, you might be popping too early.

I also had this problem. I got better by just being a little more patient when I pop and waiting to reach the lip and also by throwing kind of up and across as opposed to just throwing across. I always swing my arms up and over my lead shoulder and that helps me pop up enough and leave the lip at the right time.
