Anybody else find the ice bucket challenge one of the stupidest trends theyve ever seen?

"oh look! Another trend for me to hop on and show everybody how with-the-times and original i am!

Where I live instead of an ice bucket we just had people jump into lake superior. (up until like middle of june) because there was still ice on it until beginning/middle of June.

It may be just another challenge but at least this one is actually generating money for ALS awareness groups. Unlike all the other "challenges" that are just stupid attention grabbing shenanigans. I believe if your nominated and don't want to look like a dick or dump ice on your self, your supposed to donate $100 to ALS awareness/research groups.

In all honesty it still kind of is. According to an article on NBC, the ALS association has received over 1.35 million so far in donations compared to last years $22,000 due to this recent challenge and the sudden awareness it created.

Well as much as I hate it apparently it has raised a lot of money for ASL foundations.


$1.35 million has been collected since July 29th when this all started. In that time frame last year only $22,00 was raised.

This was created in New Zealand as a way to raise money for cancer research. The ice is what its like to have kemo done on you. Its a good idea that was born out of nek nominations (another NZ made thing). Its created much awareness and money so much in fact that over here there was a lack of ice due to so many people doing it.

If you have a problem with people supporting cancer research then i dont think you are that good of a person

ya i heard "chemo" is just like having some cold water poured on your head. Patients actually report thats just what it feels like haha

pretty much everyone in my town does it and my news feed is blown up with it. its fucking annoying. half of them dont even know what the fuck it stands for. if you want to dump water on your head, go for it, just dont make a fucking a video. I support the cause and i have donated but not because i was nominated.

Ya, but how many of them do you think actually donate? In the few videos ive seen of it the person doesnt even mention having to donate if you dont do it in 24 hours or whatever. I assume the only reason theyre getting so many donations is because they got professional athletes in on it

I have no clue what they called it because I always thought it was stupid.

I'm pretty sure it didn't have to be lake superior either it could be any lake that still had ice on it which would still be about the same thing.

How about the naked triple backflip challenge. You have to throw a naked triple backflip in the next week or donate 100k to cancer research. Most people won't want to do a triple flip so they'll generate a shit ton of money for charity.

if theyre donating, thats awesome. im all for that, you'd have to real dumb to be against supporting a the one thing that irks me though is they arent doing it out of the goodness of their hearts, its all for instagram/facebook likes. but if they're donating, thats all that matters.
