How did Bishop come to be the boss?

El_Barto.In the who owns Newschoolers thread he says him and a few other OGs sold the site a while back.

Ive never put much thought into how Bishop got where he is. When and how did you become the supreme commander of NS Bishop? And more importantly, when is your david spade noob eating icon coming back?

I started in 2004 as an advertising sales guy with zero experience. I actually only ever wanted to do it for a few years and start a park building business. Job was always supposed to be temporary, and I even rejected ownership a couple of times.

It was during the sale process that I officially changed titles. I had grown up a lot in the few years I'd been at NS, and decided to make this a much more permanent career. I had been running the business end of things for a while, and had done a lot of community-facing events and such. Moreso on the business side (both finances and shit like HR) we just made the call that I would be a good fit to lead.

So as we conducted the sale of the business, I changed over to being the General Manager, and that was that.

So where does Mousseau fall in all of this? I thought he was now GM?

Yeah but I was Publisher, which is technically above GM. There's a ton of backend business that has to be run which you guys don't see, and all that falls under me. As well, Jason and I work on overall Strategy, so I still have a lot to say about it.

I mean in the end its only a fucking org chart. We tend to try and run a fairly flat structure here.

Definitely my only job. We do well enough to employ a few people full time. We could use more that is for damn sure, but we do alright.

The job title of Publisher doesn't actually have much to do with publishing. :) Its an old print term that really means the head business guy. So being in charge of revenue, expenses, budgets. There is a huge lean of publisher towards the sales side though - lots of advertising sales and less on the operational front.

Yeah its not a bad job at all. :) Only problem is I actually ski less than you'd think. There's so much business to be done its hard to get out there.

I actually did do that this year. Was visiting my brother, who owns a house up in Swiss meadows. After the kids went to sleep, we ripped night skiing for like an hour and a half. Super awesome.
