Using Avy Shovels for Jumps?

I can get good deals through black diamond and I'm looking at the Deploy, Lynx, and Transfer shovel as my avalanche shovel, would they hold up for building jumps as well?
To not make two threads, what benefits would you say the bandit and agent pack from BD have that you don't get from Dakine backpacks or other way around?

Get the biggest one you can or it will be hell. I have built a few jumps with avy shovels and it take like twice as long as when you have like a normal big snow shovel.

acually, dont get the biggest one unless you measure your pack and make sure the shovel actually fits in your pack! it sucks if the shovel wont even fit in the pack :(

You can do it. If you are on a bc skinning trip or a longer day, you can because it's all you have. If you are going to a (even somewhat) easily accessible place, just bring snow shovels

Doesn't take too long with a decent avy shovel.
Just don't use the shovel to compress the snow (by whacking the jump) or you'll destroy all the joints in the shovel really fast.

good thought, but i do that all the time with my brooks range shovel, and after a lot of abuse it still seems just fine. the only problem is that the paint gets scraped off when you hit rocks

Sweet thanks guys'! I ended up going with the 28L covert pack from BD, and the deploy 7 shovel. Do you think it'll fit fine with the shovel, an extra layer, some food, probe, skins, and goggles?

I went through the same thing last season. The BD covert pack is really good and simple, and I like the perk of the avaLung, even though I will never use it. I got the BCA shovel and it fits in the pack really well. Most avy shovels should it has a long front pocket. As for building jumps with the shovel, it's fine as long as you have more than one person.

Sounds good thanks man. Also, why don't you think you'll ever use it? I got just the covert pack without the avalung.

Hopefully I'll never be in an avalanche either and for the same reason I just got the pack with no avalung. I wonder if for 100 more bucks though it would of been worth it to buy an avalung just because there's always that probability of an avalanche no matter how careful/knowledgeable you are.

yeah my pack was $100 with the avilung. Got lucky on a sale
