Right now I am currently using iMovie. I am looking to get a better software though. From what I've seen the top two are Final cut pro and adobe premiere pro. So the question is, which should I get?

Never used Final cut but I have had some experience with Adobe though. It was simple enough to figure out how to do stuff with adobe so I'm not sure if this helps any but I would personally go with premiere just because I like the same layout as photoshop. I'm sure you can get a trial of Adobe on their website if you just wanted to check it out for yourself. Dunno if final cut has a trial but if it does try both out and go with what you find is more natural for you and still allows you to do the kind of edits you want to do.

Have used both quite a bit. Really love premiere, final cut is meh. They catered to the masses with final cut pro 10 (really anything since 7), so it is more similar to imovie now (it might be a tad easier for you to edit with it, since youre already familiar with imovie). That being said, it is more of a matter of preference, as I know people who are good at what they do, and absolutely love final cut. You should definitely try out both, or read up on the specifics (features) a bit more!

1. Download stock footage (Delorme contest for example).
2. Edit said stock footage on both programs (demos are available for both).
3. Decide which you prefer based on your experience.
4. Acquire preferred program.

Adobe. FCPX is an upgraded version of iMovie, and if you have enough patience, watch tutorials on youtube and Premiere will be better. Only plus in FCP is the magnetic timeline, I'm missing that in Premiere.

I would say Adobe, Apple is slowly moving out of the software game, they just canned Aperture and FCX was hardly an upgrade to v7.

I've never used premier so I'm not going to speak against it. fcp is pretty easy to use, especially if your coming from iMovie. i would watch some tutorials online for both and whatever seems better to you, you should get

I use Sony Vegas 13 and its pretty good, I only use it because it was the easiest thing to crack , but if I had to choose it would most likely to be Premiere , although all the effects and things you would want to have would be in final cut and its a lot easier as seen in tutorials / overviews on youtube
