Subaru wrx sti vs Mitsubishi evo vs audi S4

getting a new car soon and narrowed it down to these three cars and was wondering if anyone has experiences with these cars

looking at 04s-07s not looking to spend over 16000
ill be using it as my everyday driver and will be driving it to the mountain probably every weekend also i will occasionally take it to the track and have some fun
If anyone can tell me what they know about these cars that'd be great
and of course +k to helpful answers

bfulmerHow could swapping the sti turbo into a car with a smaller displacement and a much higher curb weight than the STI make it faster? I'm curious as to how you spent only 2 grand and achieved that.


well first off the sti is a 2.5l turbo. the forester engine is a 2.5L turbo... it is the same engine. the differences are so small such as some red paint on the intake and the turbo and tmic being the big ones as far as the engine goes. also curb weight of the forester 3250 vs the same year sti being 3190 lbs. the stock numbers after the typical vf39 swap is 260awhp vs a stock sti on the same dyno is 215 awhp. i have much more then 2k in my forester but I'm just saying 2k is all it takes to spank some sti's....

Hindsight sucks but if i were to do it all over again i would aim for a 2006-2008 forester xt manual and do all suspension work first with sit struts and springs, sway bars and move over to brakes. I've realized if you want to go fast you need to stop fast too. mucho importante.

next time i will just get an STI though. unless this levorg comes to the US.

you would be surprised on what good pads with new rotors and fluid will do. when it comes to stopping. i got lucky and snagged all 4 sti struts and springs for 50 plus shipping haha

i like subie alot and audi but my haert will always be for mitsubishi just a proper jdm 4 banger with a huge turbo on it i prefer the 4g63 9's over the 10's

4G63 LOVE

The 4g63 engine is a legend. Hands down one of, if not the best 4 cylinder engine ever made. Iron block baby!!! They don't make motors like that anymore, everything is aluminum with sleeves...booo.

honestly man. if you are going to be buying a used awd turbo car you need more than 16g's. I bought my 2008 evo x gsr for 22.5 with 40k miles. now with 63k it is still worth 22. You really need to have a ton of extra money for repairs and shit. nothing under 20 is going to be reliable and will probably cost about 4 to get to daily conditions.

However if you do, bring a mechanic or try and get someone to do a boost leak test and compression test. BUY STOCK

Good luck finding an unmolested one... Since all these are fun cars, kids these days love doing hard launches and shit all the time so you have no idea how hard a used subi has been driven.

But if I were to choose, in no particular order, Subaru XT 2004-2005 model years since they had the wrx trans/motor with a smaller intercooler, 2004+ WRX, 2005 Saab 9-2x Aero since it is a rebadge wrx, or look into a Volvo S60r from 2005+ (I try to avoid the first year of anything, personal choice).

My brothers 1g eclipse has an n/a 4g and it still pulls hard with the basic n/a mods, full exhaust, intake and lots of good maintenance. Seriously the best 4 cylinder made in a sports car. Hopefully he'll have a built Talon or Evo in a few years. DSM ftw

I have owned a few of all 3. A b5 s4 is a beast in the snow and a quick fun car to drive on the street. For 16k I would get a 99-01 B5 S4 for like 8 or 9k with 100k+ on it. Make sure its had water pump and timing belt done then save the 6k for miscellaneous stuff you are going to need to fix the car.

The evo is the best choice out of all of them but for 16k you are going to have trouble finding one that isnt beat up or has a ton of miles on it. Plus its going to rape your insurance.

Why people are broke....buy $16k car that is already at 100k and known for people driving them hard.....do yourself a favor and buy a new civic or something slightly used that will last ten times as much.

Cars are the worst investments. Lost value the second you drive off the lot. Makes no sense.

Actually not a bad plan, although be really careful with any S4 especially a b5. Owned my S4 for 2 years and it was a nightmare, however when they run well they are so much fun, and have a ton of potential for mods. Personally, i would rather invest in a Forester XT with an sti turbo and STI front end conversion cause i think they are some of the sickest & most unique cars out there. You don't see many on the road and its something you can truly make your own.
