Is LSM good?

Before i start let me say that LSM IS A GOOD SKIER, but my real question is, is he pro caliber good?

I just watched partly cloudy for the thousandth and by the time the movie ended i realized that i have never seen LSM do a trick that wowed me technically. Dude kills it and he is actually one of my favorite skiers to watch, but he seems to be all style. His butters are insane and his style is some of the best ive ever watched. But watching his part i noticed that he only does basic tricks. His segmant is filled with strail slides, a couple 270s out, maybe a kfed, a couple 2s on, all on pretty simple rails. Hes a hell of alot better than me but when i compare his tricks to those of wesson, strenio, ahmet, banks, chris, logan, and all of the other urban based segmants in a level 1 movie. He just doesnt look as technically skilled as the other guys. Even in his sunny appearence i was only really impressed by one or two tricks. I love watching his parts because he makes every trick he does look amazing but i an genuinely underwhelmed by the lack of cool tricks. It would make more sense if he was doing fewer tech tricks on crazy rails but he isnt. Sure buttering everything is hard but the things he does after his butters are not on the same level (IMO). When you look as other butter kings like McVeigh the tricks he does once hes on the rail blow my mind but i experience the same type of amazement when watching LSM's parts.

So my question stands. Is LSM technically a great skier or just a master of style?

The thing about those skiers is you have to look a little deeper than their current segments. They're filming with L1 for a reason, not just because they ride the same as every other kid with clothing too big and poor all around skiing ability. I guarantee if you outlined and played a "technical" game of skate against LSM (no butters, presses dont count, no reverts, etc.) hed still absolutely slay. Im sure he can rip every part of the mountain with superb skill, you just dont see it. And he obviously prefers a more stylistic approach so thats how he rides. Same goes for skiiers like goepper and bobby brown, they could have sick style if thats what they aimed for, but they're committed to comp skiing and until they get sick of that its just how it goes.

yeah. i see what your saying, and honestly id much rather watch LSM ski than nick goepper or many of the other tech wizards but IMO when i watch a movie i would rather watch a combination of the tech and style than either just tech or just style. i am not much of a park skier my self so that might be one of the reasons i am seeing things the way i am.

LSM is just as good as all the guys on Level 1. For sure his focus is more on doing original stuff and making it look good weither than doing the hardest trick possible. I'd say he's more of a style perfectionnist, and he brings something fresh. His segment in Partly Cloudy is really good and different. When I watch him, I want to see different stuff, if I want to see technical rail skiing, I'm gonna watch Will or LJ.

LSM is a pro skier.... he gets payed to ski and thus he is pro (inb4 flow level riders get payed to). The real issue here is that people think they can compare him to pro comp skiers. But it's a whole different ball game. Have you ever tried what LSM or the other bunch guys do? It's ridiculously difficult and in some cases impossible. I can honestly say I've watched LSM's edits and segment more times then I've watched ANY comp run, why? Because it's more entertaining, in my eyes, it's actually more impressive. He displays unbelievable control over those two planks under his feet, control most of us can only yearn for. Let me leave you with this, although LSM may not be the technical skier that, say, Gus Kenworthy is, Gus couldn't do most of the shit LSM is doing, not in his wildest dreams, but LSM couldn't do a lot of what Gus does either. Who you prefer to watch is up to you. Imagine if LSM started throwing the jump tricks he does in his partly cloudy seggy in a comp, all the judges would be so confused and rattled, how do they even score it? Cuz in my mind LSM's butters on the knuckle and shit is way more impressive than any triple I've ever seen because of the level of control.

LSM is changing the game. If you cant see what the hype about Lsm is it just proves that youre not a good enough skier or knowledgeable enough within freeskiing to understand the value of what he does. What skiing need is someone to explore and lead the way into new realms of how its possible to use a pair of skis, to just do a couple more pretzel swups on a quad kink gets old pretty damn quick.
And to say he's parts so far has had a lack of "cool" tricks is just plain stupid.
Guess all you haters might get it later tho..

Isn't being a master of style enough to be considered a great skier?

What makes skiing different from other sports is that you don't have to compare a pro with other pros to determine if he's "pro caliber". This isn't tennis or hockey where stats and rankings determines everything.

IMO he's good enough to be a pro

LSM has unbelievable edge control...he never pizzas before or after a trick, he's in complete control the whole time. Yeah, he's pretty good.

Kinda wierd thing to post a thread about but ok.
I've seen the kid ski live a couple of times and he's def at a level where very few people can compete with him anywhere and even fewer at his own game if that makes sense.
And if you're thinking he doesn't spin or whatever- he's got that too I just don't think that's what he wants to do. I mean check out some old edits he has crazy swup tricks on handrails, nines all four ways and even a couple of those beloved dubs.

skiins is about makin hard shit look easy, witch apparently the president is really good at. try some of the shit he does n you will see it aint that easy. then imagen that he come up with it him self, which itself is a hard thing to do, n he dident even know if it was possible then he stared trying it.

I love the first shot of the sweden segment ; LSM does a quick nose stall before dropping into a sketchy little line. That would probably give me a heart attack but he looked as cool as a fucking cucumber doing it.

That shot sums up LSM to me - simple yet innovative tricks, and 100% clean execution.

LSM has both tech skills and style for days. His Less segment is probably the most insane part i have ever seen! All of the tricks are super fucking hard to do and still very very stylish, just look at the nollie 360 over the bench or the last shot. Two not so impressive spots, but he makes the most of them and creates magic.

haha fuck you if you cant see the skills LSM got. I bet none of the pros can do half of the tricks lsm do.

the ollie 360 over the ledge to a 3m drop? you go do that and then you can write this thread.
and many of the tricks lsm did back in 2011 is what people are trying to do today.

if you cant see how good lsm is, then you really have no idea about skiing. if you say that his tricks arent technical and that he is pure style, then you must damn fucking good at skiing bruh. cmon man,
sw bio 10 both ways, sitting switch 180, early tail 3 and 5 and some crazy railtricks. this was all back in 2010-11. educate yourselves.
