if you are worried about price, you can get into it real cheap. you really only need a rod, reel, line and and handful of flies. you can buy beginner rod kits for less then a C note and they have everything you need except flies. and honestly they will work just fine compared to the expensive gear.

I feel the best way to learn is to watch someone else fish or some youtube videos to learn some general cast motions. Then you just want to spend as much time as you can with your rod in hand. If you go with someone, ask them as much as you can. you just need to get out there and get comfortable. But of course, if CU has a club, join it. That would be a great way to learn
