Where did my love for skiing go?

I used to think about skiing every waking moment until this past winter. I would shop for new gear all summer, watch videos nonstop, and plan out the upcoming winter before the previous one ended. I got more into school and started thinking about what I am going to do after college, so that sucked. Then, this past year for some reason I just seem less interested and skied 12 less days and didn't seem to have the love I once had. Happen to anyone else? How did you "rediscover"skiing? Or am I just growing up and moving on in life?

I don't think you have anything to worry about. You just posted on NS and it is August 5th. Here in Oregon it is currently 67 degrees at 6000'. For now, if you can focus on school and get it over with then all the better. School is just temporary and skiing is for life.

You're just doing this. Your love for skiing is not gone, but your world is expanding. Skiing will have to share the spotlight with other stuff as you become an adult and take responsibility for your life.

I've been there too. You just gotta remember that your going to school to get a job so you can get all the gear and do all the skiing you ever wanted.

It's the Toyota ads, once those expire you will find a new love for skiing.

Videos contribute hugely to the stoke level, it's hard to watch them when there's 30 seconds of no man's land before them.

Same thing happened to me last winter. I was too focused on school, relationships, and working out, to have the time/motivation to ski as much as I had before. Luckily by the start of summer it all came back to me, and more stoked than ever for this winter, and my class schedule should allow it to be my best season yet. Don't worry the stoke will come back

You're just growing up. It's ok for other things to matter too, and it doesn't mean that skiing has to be any less enjoyable.
Happened to me too, and I still think about skiing a bit during the summer (clearly, I'm on NS now in my landscape architecture studio), and go up 10-20 times a winter. Those days are still some of the best days of the year. It's just part of a more balanced life, and I'm pretty stoked on that.

There is only one solution OP, you have to kill yourself.

Or go to a better mountain and ski more challenging terrain. I got pretty bored of skiing in the midwest when I lived there, but it's not because I stopped caring about skiing, it's because the terrain there is a few hundred feet of shallow groomers. Move to Snowbird or Jackson Hole or Squaw Valley or Mount Baker and ski real terrain all winter/spring. You'll love skiing more than you ever have before.

It happens all the time. It's the difference between a hobby and a passion.

It's hard to do everything the older you get, you change as a person your priorities change. Skiing might have been your life a few years ago but you have other things you'd rather be doing in that time. As long as you still get out on the hill sometimes it's all good.

Just do whatever makes you happy. Skiing isn't going to go anywhere.

well there might be times where you need to focus on other things. Or want to focus on other things. But from personal experience (took like a 5 year break from skiing a few years back), it's gonna be as awesome as it gets once you come back!

This happend to me this past season, my mountain was closed half the year because it wasn't getting snow. I only got up 7 times this year I was just really unmotivated and not stoked to ski. I had signed up for coc with my cousin early in the year though and I wasn't even very excited for that. Now after going up there I realized how much I still love skiing, and I could not be more stoked for this season.

I had a fade from skiing during my college years. College is alot of work when you have almost no money, it sucks but it happens. Pretty much as soon as I was out of college (and uninjured again) I was back at the mountain, working as an instructor and the love for it came right back, stronger than ever.

P.S. Stfu about the toyota ads unless you want to give NS money.

I was obsessed with skiing in highschool then I moved to college and didn't ski much my freshman and sophomore year but my junior year i got back into skiing all the time. I am back to being just as obsessed as I was in highschool now I'm gonna graduate after this winter and hopefully get a sick job in the industry.

I think its all about progression. Skiing is boring to me (and most people) unless your improving. Sometimes people get to a point where they have really hit their peak. Maybe the risk vs reward has tilted as you grow older so your progression and need to progress has stopped.

Youre just growing up and realizing skiing isnt everything. It really is fucking stupid to sit and pout and complain about not being able to ski all summer. A lot of people on this site need to get over that kind of attitude and go out and enjoy the summer, its fucking awesome.

I feel your pain OP, I dont have the drive to watch edits all summer or search for new gear, I kinda just get pants and a hoodie and dont care if its Jiberish or Saga. Even though I still dream of it I dont think being pro as much as I did 2 years ago even though I got many more tricks in my bag this past season, I think more about getting a good job and getting into rally driving in many years to come. I hope this season cures me and you OP

I'm the same way. the only videos out right now are park edits. I'm more into the big mountain/pow side of skiing so those are more rare this time of the year.

Just pick up a new sport, DH/AM biking certainly makes me NOT want to think about skiing in the summer time.

i had a tough choice to make, with minimal money, i couldnt split my interests between two diffrent lifestyles. i ended up making the right decision and stuck to skiing and fishing (and lots of weed) vs dumping money into upgrading my car and buying jordans. skiing is somthing i can always look forward to. i enjoy doing it and it has helped me live a better mental lifestyle.

when you have more responsibilities like careers and university sometimes your enjoyment takes a back seat. part of just growing up i guess, more on your mind, so even when you get the time to take off and ski you may be not fully focused on what you're doing, thinking ahead to what you need to do later on. This takes away from the enjoyment. also having a more planned life can have the same effect, you have less time elsewhere, sometimes not getting enough sleep, making you kinda have to ski on days you have open for it as opposed to when you want to (say starting late so you can sleep in or have a big breakfast on a ski day, or missing a pow day cause you were not free). these can all be factors for less interest and enjoyment. just remember skiing is fun, just take a breath and enjoy what is there for you. you may not have the same goals you once had with it, but you're outside, you may be with your friends, and it sure as hell beats another day at the office.

Welcome to life man. After 2 acls and having a big boy job I barley made it out the past 2 years. Your passion will never leave I still made it 50 days last season. Plan to do even more this upcoming one the spark kinda came back and it feels great, but sometimes you need to do what life needs and party later.

Exactly why I use adblocker. On another note I also thought about skiing non stop 24/7 until about last summer. I'm now going into my senior year of college and havn't thought about skiing much all summer. I still get stoked in the fall for it to start but not the same in the summer anymore, full-time jobs will do that to ya.
