roubles with the comp

Allright, its been about 4 months since i have used my home computer, and its sorta fucked up. I've been using it for about 3 days now, so its broken in and everything, but the core overheats. I've never had a problem with this computer before, in fact its actually taken years to build my custom PC. I'm running a celeron 2.5 GHz at 3.12, and i have 1+ gig of memory, and a GeForce 4200Ti, with 2 fans circulating, but when i'm running non-complex prgrams, my comp overheats. This has never been a problem in the past, and because nobody has been in my room, very little dust can accumulate. Rather than slowing down my CPU, what else can i do?

defrag? maybe just system clean up? just let her run for a while and let it sort out its problems. or, add more cooling fans.

haha defrag? what's that gonna do?

hmm. I'm assuming you've popped the case open and given a good clean. get one of those compressed air cans, they work like a charm.

make sure the heatsink on your CPU is sitting properly on the chip. If it isn't, I would be surprised your comp is still really working at all, but it's worth a check.

by the way, how do you know it's overheating? do you have a temperature monitor or are you just guessing?

My comp is resetting, and i'm looking at my core monitor before it does. The automatic reset is set on 50 c, and its average is like 48 just while running windows and ares.

I assume since you custom built it that you put the heasink and fan on the CPU. Did you remember to put the thermal past on, without that stuff your CPU will over heat, no matter how many fans you got.

your first problem is running a celeron! and to overclock it, not the best idea. anyway check thermal paste, it is winter so the heat is on in your house, is the computer close to a heat vent? are the holes for the fans blocked by where your computer is sitting? also reset the 50 degrees c to something more like 60 or 65. it should easily be ok up to 90 degrees c. also run a checkdish on your hard drive(s) my hard drives actually produce a hell of a lot of heat and that could be an issue if air isnt circulating. also make sure that for each fan that blows air into the computer there is one fan blowing air out.
