Moving out to BC

Hi everyone,
Me and my girlfriend are planning to move out to BC next summer and we need your help to find the right place where we want to live.

Before we start, here's all you have to know about us.

We are two French canadian from quebec city.
We both are 22.
We both ski.
We already leave together and have no problem with it.
We both want to stay there for a while.
We both don't like big town.

Myself:
I studied in administration in Cegep and now have a job in that domain.
Professional experience: worked in a lumbyard during my studies as a team leader and now work for a marketing agency as a rep.
I already been in british columbia and worked there one summer but my english is more of a functionnal english than fluid english.
Place i visited : okanagan valley, vancouver, whistler, tofino

What i care about : Quick job finding, cheap rent, rad ski resort within an hour drive, great vibes

Girlfriend:
She studied in dietetics in cegep but it is not worth anything in BC.
She work full time in a glasses shop.
Never been to BC.
She speak english quite good but not enough to work public for the first months.

What she care about : it's not fucking quebec city.

So now that you know us a little more here is what we are planning: we want to find a place were we can rent a appartement for quite cheap and find ourself some easy jobs wich would make us able to get familiar with our new environment and perfect our english. We do not expect to get jobs wich earn us 40k a years but want to be able to pay the rent/food/car without being forced to eat Kraft dinner on weekend. After a year or less we want to find better jobs without being forced to move again.

So, in your opinion, what would be the best city for two young adult who want to start a new life to move in ?

move to kelowna BC 30 min away from big white and rent will be way cheaper than whis

Combined you might make 40K in some ski town.

Allez big relocate any skitown will do.

Check out Sunpeaks if you haven't considered it, Lake Louise, Kicking horse, Whistler, Red

Thanks for the answer ! Kelowna seams like a great place after looking a bit more into it. cheap rent, lots of jobs but what can i expect from big whites ? is it much of a touristics resort ? backcountry ? park ?

I love skiing everything. From park to backcountry and all the switch gaper dodgin in between. If it have a decent park, descent pow and awesome inbound radness combined with a good vibes i'll be more than satisfied.

Whistler is really the only mountain in BC that has sick terrain and park. But is touristy and you will be over charged for rent and no real opportunities for 'career' styled jobs unless you pay your dues over many seasons. Big White and Sun Peak have decent parks, and the mountains are fairly big but the terrain is meh.

Then you have the other end of the spectrum where you have massive mountain in the interior with no parks.

I say come out here and do a road trip over a week or two. Check out the different towns in the area and go from there. In all reality you've got the Kootenays (east and west), Thompson/Okanagan, Sea to Sky Corridor or Comox Valley on Vancouver Island to choose from. I personally would advise against living in the Thompson/Okanagan, but that's based on personal preference. And while the Comox Valley is an amazing place to live, the skiing isn't as good as on the mainland, but far better than anything east of the Rockies.

Each region has their own vibe, pros/cons, and job opportunities, once you get out here, you can start to decide where you want to live.

do you care more about being in BC or in the mountains? personally if i were you and didnt care too much about being far from the ocean i would move to banff

I would say go on a pretty decent road trip and check out the majority of ski hills in the west coast as it's really dependent on your own personal style.

I've been in BC for two years and I've skied at most major resorts (excluding sun peaks, fernie and lake louise) and I've spent a decent amount of time in whistler, whitewater, manning park and mount washington. I found skiing in the okanagan to be pretty underwhelming and I didn't really like kelowna as a town, but vernon is alright and so is armstrong.

If you don't mind living in a smaller place and skiing a smaller lesser known hill check out northern bc. My friend moved up north to work at shames co-op and couldn't believe how awesome the terrain is up there. But theres not much park and it will take time to gain experience to make it out into the backcountry there.

My favourite ski hill in BC is Whitewater, it's a great place to learn to ski in the mountains and build up your skills and learn how to get into the backcountry. Nelson is also a rad place to live, but the whole job thing is kind of a downside.
