How far can park skiing progress?

Always wondered how different park skiing will be in the next 5-10 years? What do you think will change the most, features or tricks? Any thoughts?

Both features and tricks will become bigger and better, as people's balls become larger and gear is bettered. Look at the 80's straities compared to ARMADAS current ski lineup. Things change - for the better. Let's hope snowboarding dies out

in all honesty i am not sure how much more is physically possible. i predict that triples will become like doubles and a shitton of crazy variations and combinations of them will be thrown, but other than that features will get bigger and crazier as always. i think urban creativity is where we are headed, and pro freestyle skiing will become like skateboarding; mostly in the streets.

It will progress as much as us skiers want it to.

Courses will change, features will change, tricks will advance. I think there will come a time where trick progression will slow down a lot. But skiing will be forever changing. I hope it is always changing though. Skiing is about freedom and creativity. If we ride the same courses and stick to a standard slopestlye course then that goes against the "free" in freesking.

Who knows what a slopestyle course will look like in 10/15 years. Maybe it won't even be called slopestyle by then. Maybe people won't even care about slopestyle and the main skiing events will be a skate park inspired courses. Or maybe that will be called slopestyle. I don't really know but I think skiing has so much room to grow.

Girls freeskiing will definitely progress too. Soon, all our girls will be throwing doubles and then even triples.

For the men, if possible itll get to quads for jumps and switch triples will occur more along with the 1st switch triple misty. Also pipe skiers will hopefully start tossing triples.

As for the women I feel theyll eventually get to triples and start dubbing in pipe.

I have a feeling it cant progress much more and everyone will catch up to the big guys.

I feel the only thing that could eventually separate the pros from the joes is some sort of technology that can determine how "stomped" a trick is for judges to review...
i.e. some sort of degree counter, like everything has to be on point and nailed...

but hey, what do I know.

IT really depends. There is still a lot that can be done. Also not everything is about the biggest spins. It will progress to triples being common and some occasional quads. Parks will keep changing with the sport. The sport really drives the park building and vice versa. Parks will continue to get more funding, and built by more experienced crews. As long as the sport stays popular you will see cleaner and cleaner parks across the board. Eventually most or at least a good amount of mountains will have park setups that rival the photoshoot type clean lines and creativity of today.

The big jumps might not continue to get THAT much bigger and beyond triples might be nearing the end of spins but there is still a lot that can be done. Especially on the smaller levels.

As much as the top of the sport seams to be close to a peak, it kind of always has seamed that way. I think it will be fine. The most important thing is the base of our sport. The base is huge these days. What was once a fringe sport on some shitty trail on the mountain to get rid of "those kids" is now the main attraction at some places.

I'm more excited of what the future means for the smaller hills, comps, and no name random riders out there shredding. I think the future is bright.

the thought of being near a peak and how fast we progressed really scares me... unless there will be a new way to grind rails or spin, I think we are really close to and end

I don't think that quintuples will be thrown without someone dying by a crash, meaning there will be just a physical borderline we cannot cross without risking death

Snowboarding will probably be ahead of skiing when quads come in to play. Snowboards are typically a little lighter, and some competitive riders can float out the third flip in their triples. Also, snowboarders kind of put skiing to shame as far as urban riding goes imo, but they can rarely do pretzels.

I think that trick wise there is not much more progression. Sure people will throw quads but it's not realistic to expect athletes to push themselves to do tricks that are so big and dangerous. I see the future full of more style oriented triples, but mainly it's going to come you down to younger and younger kids competing because they are the ones who can fall and recover the easiest. And I agree that it will be a lot like skateboarding in terms of urban growth.
The truth is that it's moving to fast for its own good.

Can't even watch skiing urban anymore...find it boring honestly. Snowboarding is light years ahead....partially because they ride a board.

Different types of rotations in doubles. I saw a man on a tramp do a flat 3 left to cork 7 right in one fucking jump. Mixing up opposite way spins and axis' in doubles is the future.

I think as parks become better and freeskiing becomes more popular kids will start at younger ages and become much better faster. you will see more all mountain/big mountain skiing with tricks that are only being done in the park right now. Also i think big clothing might go out of style.

I'm fairly confident that the progress of jumping will be limited to the size of jumps people are willing to hit. Say that in 300 years us as humans have evolved to not have fear in us, then what.

I don't really want to ever see pipe triples. I really hope pipe moves towards more amplitude (I know it's a factor but not enough of one yet) and creativity with different rotations and grabs. A good example of a creative rotation is Gus's dub 10 while he faces the deck the entire trick.

No. Lisa Zimmerman landed the first female dub cork 12 back in 2012. I haven't heard of any other girls doing doubles since except for in snowboarding.

grabs on grinds... like, it becomes a standard to have your slides grabbed, lots of pre-grabs, butters and stuff... for skiing there are just ski-slides, onefooters & 50-50s, that's why the progression is limited...

in skateboarding you got 50s, 5-Os, smith, feeble, wheeliegrind, losi, crooks, overcrooks, nosegrinds, backboard, frontboard, tail and noseslides, blunt and nosebluntslides plus the whole shit switch... and if that wasn't hard enough you're welcome to throw in combos and flips

I don't know why everyone thinks things are going to get bigger. The general trend in skiing has been for park features to get smaller. Rails are no longer all 8 ft tall with 45 degree kinks, and nobody is trying to launch 180 ft gap jumps. Skiing will become more and more about style and creativity as the technical and self-tossing sides are pushed closer to their limits.

At the risk of sounding cliché, look at skateboarding. Style and creativity are king, while people skate smaller, more unique spots with options for creativity, instead of seeking out a 50 stair handrail.

what's the format in skateboarding?

i have a hard time imagining comps, unlike everything else in action sports, taking many cues from skateboarding.. theyre not exactly the most comp oriented people (which is great)

i think the only hope for slope is for the courses to become 100x more creative with all kinds of options. i know that's logistically tough tho

watch street league, they have a flow section, control section and an impact section , i think this could work in skiing somehow, because the way comps are headed people are going to have to do all 4 way triple corks and a quad every run to qualify, and i really think kids in the future aren't going to want to do that every run, it's just not fun at that point.

hm that's interesting, so they sort of explicitly force people to focus on different aspects. i'll have to watch some to see how it works out

but yeah exactly, something needs to happen in slope or else it'll get way too structured with a run needing to be rail hopping maxed out and 3 trips or whatever

i would like to see more variation in jumps where only one is a perfect straight up table and the others vary, with tons of options for take offs and landings and trannies

i think the level of switch ups on bigger high risk features will increase. style as of right now dominates the seen more than the bigger tricks
