Online- you post a video of you skiing. Best skier wins
In person - you show up, chill with fellow ns'ers, compete, then ski the rest of the day.

If a comp was held for newschoolers members only, would you rather see it done in multiple in person comps around the US or one big online contest?

What would be cool is do something along the lines of a 48 hour film fest. What that is is that you have one weekend or so to film, edit, and submit your video. people vote on best skier, best video, etc.

i would like to mention SDrvper's idea. We should actually just film one line with 3 or 4 tricks in a row, then have a vote for each category and colored name

the only fair way would be in person. step up for a couple runs. given enough time, anyone can string a few tricks together. plus with the fact that some kid on the east will be hitting shitty lips to sticky rails with icy landings and some kids from park city will be hitting some of the nicest parks in the game put a larger discrepancy between perceived and actual difficulty/skill.

an online contest is always just that: an online contest. they're all intrinsically flawed for the most part. the voting is almost always flawed.

If its online then you would just have a ton of hammers.
Only fair way to do it would be to have regional qualifiers, one on the East, one in midwest, one in Europe, one out west (weeds out the best skier from each "region") and then have them fly to a park setup of NS choosing, set up a course, and give em a day to practice and then a day to compete

Yeah, it would have to be in person to work well. The "Meetup" style would be a good one to use here. Each region has one like Logan said, and winners could do a bigger event. There would have to be prizes though, or nobody would show up.

Sorry dude. It's really difficult to even get one country together to do something like this.

As for having a qualifier/ finals type comp. It's too complicated and expensive and there's a shit ton of stuff to do to make it work and to make it successful. Our idea right now is to do an ns meet up sort of thing and then have a crowd judged rail jam and gnar style big mountain comp. If it has a good turn out and people are really into it we will try to make it as big as we can. Maybe add in some canadian and/or european locations. I dont know haha. I'm not expecting it to ever become anything huge but to have an annual ns meet up/comp would be pretty rad if you ask me.

I agree, I think we may be going to big here. It is simply too expensive and complicated to do a tour, even though it would be better.

I believe we should just pick somewhere in the middle-ish of the country and have a meet up, and hopefully it grows from there.

Actually we're in the process of setting up 4 regional meet ups/comps(PNW, Rockies, Midwest, East). We still have a bit more to figure out but It should work out pretty well and shouldn't cost much.

Well with a gnar based big mountain comp, you don't need to do anything with management.

For park my idea would be to hike a couple rails and have the crowd decide who the top 5-10 skiers are. Those skiers would take a final 2-3 runs and the crowd decides the winners. To make it work it wouldn't really be an official rail jam. If someone from the public wanted to hit the rails we were using, obviously they could. By doing this, once again management wouldn't really need to be involved.

The only thing that would cost money would be prizes. We're going to try to get local shops to sponsor the comps and donate to it. If they aren't into that, then I'm not sure what we would do.
