New DJI Ronin gimbal

I just got the new ronin gimbal system today. It is pretty amazing. Huge upgrade from my glidecam! I'll be posting some test footage this weekend for everyone to check out. I can't wait to try it out this winter for ski edits.

If you have any test shot ideas let me know. I'm trying to think of unique angels and movements to test the rigs capabilities.
Also if you have any questions about the ronin, feel free to ask

I don't think it will work on a trampoline or do much if it does. It won't correct for that much vertical movement. It only stabilizes the pan tilt and roll axis.

The ronin is 3 grand..... thats relatively cheap for gimbal systems like this one

It's pretty good quality. I think it's faster to setup than the movi. I haven't been able to do much testing yet because I've been on set the last week shooting a film. I'll be trying some car shots and other tracking shots over the weekend. for now here as some of the very early tests

It definitely looks like it requires a lot of practice. I noticed that it looked like you had a lot of control over the movement, but the stabilization itself looked a little choppy.

Some more quick tests with the Ronin gimbal.
I have a gig with it using a Red Scarlet over the weekend so hopefully I can post some test footage for the shoot next week!

I'm working on a new mounting solutions that will lock the ronin to the vehicle with a quick release platte and cut out the vertical shake transferred from the car.

Get a Range Rover, that majestic magic carpet ride is the reason a shitload of film crews around the world use them. No shake, no bumps, just a steady shot.

(Or an old big Citroën with the ridiculously over-complex Hydropneumatic self-leveling suspension)

Ronin weight = 9.26lbs
Ronin camera payload 17lbs

Movi m15 weight = 5lbs
Movi m15 camera payload 15lbs

Ronin price = 3k
Movi m15 price = 18k

If you have an extra 15 grand for a gimbal then I guess the m15 will be better because it's half the weight. But then you put a 15lb camera on both you are still carrying 24lbs or 20lbs for a couple hours.

I'll be using the ronin mounted on car rigs, cranes and steadicam arms for most of my work anyways. So I don't care about the 5 extra pounds. The price different is too larger to make the m15 worth it.

And if you are looking at getting a gimbal for a dslr setup. I wouldn't go with a ronin or movi. They are both overkill for a camera that small

What other gimbals are you looking at? and what cameras will you be using on the gimbal

Mainly gh4, but I want something that I can eventually mount on a cinestar to use an epic or something.

Shooting with a Scarlet Dragon + CP.2's this week on a Ronin, I'll let you know my impressions afterwards. Initiall thoughts tho, I may delay getting that new Zeiss Otus to add to my 55 and instead getting a Ronin first...

Nice! I used the scarlet and canon cine primes last weekend the shots looked amazing. I wish I could post some. Make sure you have a lot of red volts or a way to mount Anton bauers on the side of the camera. A large battery on the back of the scarlet makes balancing the tilt tricky

That could be used for a nice opening shot if you raise the camera up to reveal subject.

I just got the quick release plate from cinemilled.
I suggest getting some sort of QR plate so you can mount the gimbal on dolly, car rigs, cable cams, copters, ect.
