Hey there NS. I started using poles this season after i tore my ACL to help me in the lift line. I've only ski'd for one season and literally have 2 days on my Scott's. Are bamboo poles as strong as they claim? Mine are already bending after about 8 hours of use and might invest if it's worth the money. Help me out!
yea bamboo is great for poles. Also super cheap since you can just buy some bamboo from a hardware store and use your baskets/handles from broken poles and voila.

I tried. It fucking failed. Now I'm out a pole and have cracked bamboo all over :(
I'm making my own with some friends. We are going to get baskets and grips from old poles at a swap. Then, we plan to varnish and/or waterproof the outside and put a buffer rubber layer in the inside where the pole meets the grip and basket to account for the huge difference in the coefficient of linear thermal expansion in the pole vs. aluminum part that meets the units together (what a run-on sentence).
Yes they are strong. They don't bend. Yes they can break but it takes quite a bit more. I have panda poles. Personally if you go bamboo poles go panda poles because they are the coolest looking bamboo poles imo and the warranty is great. Other things I love about my pandas beside the durability is the bmx style grips and the powder baskets.
my friend grows bamboo in his moms garden. what a fuckin badass. any way im gonna cure some in an oven and attempt making poles at the end of fall. Has anyone else attempted such a thing? doesnt seem too terribly difficult
