me and a few friends are thinking about heading up to mt rainier to ski this weekend. we're just trying to set up some rails, not do any big hikes or anything. does anyone know of a good spot to camp on mt rainier near some snow that would be good for this type of thing?
I have not been there, but Paradise is where people ski during summer. It's a several hour hike from the parking lot to the glacier. I assume you could just set up a tent wherever you want at the bottom of the glacier. Be careful of crevasses, sometimes you can't see them because they are covered by snow bridges.
There are always guys with rails up at Chinook Pass, but that snow has been gone for a while this season. The shortest hike is probably under an hour at Paradise. Ditch the rail and build a little creative hit if you don't want to hike much. The skiing is better on the Interglacier, but the hike is probably 4 or 5 times longer by now.
