Hood worth it in the winter?

I just moved to hood river last month for the epic kiteboarding on the columbia, but I'm on a 6 month lease and I'm thinking about what I might want to do for the winter. Some of the locals I've talked to say that meadows is ok but the snow sucks, people from portland suck, etc. Is it really that bad? I'm going to park city for christmas, then I have to decide if I want to try to get a winter/spring lease around pc or if it's worth it to stay in the hood year round.
also, if I do end up skiing hood this winter/spring, what kind of skis should I be looking at? I've heard "just get pow skis" because it snows a lot and is pretty wet

People are more likely to tell you about what sucks than tip you off to their stash. It's sorta the catch-22 around here. Yes we want people to spend their out of state money in Oregon but we don't want to encourage anyone to move in and crowd up the place.

^Thinking about my post yesterday probably wasn't very helpful. It didn't really do anything to answer your question "is Hood worth it in the winter?" I actually haven't skied in Utah so I can only speak to the awesome that is Mt. Hood. I learned to ski at Meadows and there are in fact rad lines to ski and good snow days to be had at Meadows. On weekends they will fill up all of their huge parking lots and people deal with the crowds for good reason. There are some other places to ski in Oregon too and it is the awesomeness of these other places, not the things that 'suck' about Meadows, that has led me to buy my pass elsewhere for the past few years. Last year I started my winter season on Oct. 11th and that day I rode the chair with some hard core kite surfers that were just warming up for their afternoon on the river.

thanks for the reply. lucky me I work whenever I feel like it from home, so I can avoid crowded weekends. i guess if the season starts that early I can try to hit it a few times before I head to utah and make a decision

Meadows is a lot of fun. They have lots of cliffs and the parks are getting a lot better. If you can avoid weekends its great. I'll be working park crew this season. If you need someone to shred with hit me up

Hood is cool. I usually get the fusion pass and ski timberline for park and ski bowl for pow or night skiing. Timberline is open almost all year so thats pretty sick. Ski bowl also has a rope tow park thats always fun to lap, sometimes after skiing T-line we go down to the rope tow and lap for a few more hours.
All times are Eastern (-5)
