This, I've seen them all except for the first 3 and High Five. Eye Trip is my favorite, followed by Refresh and Turbo.

I kind of feel the same about LSS... I get the love for Forward and Strike Three, I remember the mind-blown status of those at the time and the nostalgia attached. But in reflection, LSS, S6 and Refresh really stand the test of time well.

Sunny is one of the better ones as well.

I gotta say that Refresh was by far my favorite movie, but David Crichton's segment puts Forward at a solid second. It's still one of the sickest segments of all time.

Of course it was huge for me at the time because it was one of the first ski movies I ever saw, but I still think LSS, S6, Realtime and High Five were more ground breaking at the time they came out, and they hold up pretty well.

I recognise I might be a bit biased against the newer ones since I'm obviously losing my stoke with the age.

Over 1 year a whole lot can change so you can't base 13 movies in that type of order I'd say.

Tree60I am so tired of this circlejerk. Everything about the movie now is better. The skiings better, the locations are better, the cinematography is better, the editing is better, and there's generally more money being shoveled into these movies, which in turn makes them better.

Yes, earlier movies were probably more influential and more mind-blowing at the time, but that's how innovation works. It's a lot harder to innovate 15-20 years after the explosion of a sport than it is 5 years in, when there are less people doing less things. So take off the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia and realize that the new movies that are coming out haven't had a huge drop in quality, especially Level 1.

I suppose it's subjective to what you think makes a good ski movie. Of course the movies that have come out recently have better video quality, gear, tricks, etc., but the OP said, "taking into account how good they were at their time, and what their impact was in you and in the sport?"

You have to realize that a bunch of us have been to the premieres of a lot of these early Level 1 movies, and saw them "at the time" - that's the context in which we are rating them. It's what makes ski movies epic, how fucking crazy something was because it had never been done before or never done on a certain feature etc. It's all context.

Some of the staple tricks in freesking were first seen in Level 1 movies - Corey Vanular's pretzel in S6 was the first in a feature length ski movie and the first time most people had seen it done back then. Since there were fewer tricks during that era, each new one every year was that much more mind-blowing. Judging ski movies on their respective contexts is the only way to do it, otherwise you're comparing apples and oranges - at the end of the day you're probably still comparing apples and oranges anyway, because the styles are so polar from the old movies to the new ones.

1. high five (sickest soundtrack and vibe, just classic!!)
2. shanghai six (europe, corey vanular beige orage cord suit, candide invitational)
3. eye trip (ahmet dadali wtf???)
4. refresh (twall opening maaad)
.. and then the rest all pretty at the same good level

Level 1 had and will always have good movies but for me the scanners and teddybearcrisis will always be the best skimovies ever made!
i watch them every seasonbeginning to get me stoked. they are just magic and the sport was not the same as it is now. everthing was like: ok lets try it out.

i feel more like an oldschooler nowadays^^started newschoolskiing in 2001 and i am pretty sure i wanna do it as long as possible :D but keeping it to the spirit of the aerea 2003-2005 ;)

i hope kriss ostness will someday produce teddybearcrisis 2.. with all the sick riders nowadays and leading them to the bc. just imagine: henrik or jesper hitting pyramid gap or a big halfpipe gap to sick electronic and new wave music ;) would be fucking awesome^^and everyone has his own mad videopart with introstory and so on... skimovies should to go back to their roots!! ;)

yeah its for sure a good park segment...
but i appreciate handmade massive gap jumps much more than parkjumps made by machine.
and its ten times harder to stomp a trick in the bc than in the park. if you have ever tomahawked down a step down u know what i am talking about ;)

I forgot that Refresh was when Will did that swap to the lower part of that handrail, I remember watching that trailer on mute in English class and showing my friend how nuts that was. That being said, my top five is
1. Refresh- my first Level 1 movie, sick soundtrack, awesome flow and my first taste of Adam Delorme
2. Shanghai Six- Vanular's opener is one of the best to date IMO
3. Eye Trip- part of this is because of how many times I've seen it and it was the first one I preordered, but between Delorme's segment, the introduction of Logan, Ahmet's absolute banger of an opener, and the silly absurd Sun Valley jump I think it stand out
4. LSS- Again, Vanular kills it, Tanner kills it, phenomenal soundtrack
5. Sunny- one of the best vibes, awesome soundtrack, transition toward the new crew, and the absolute domination by P-White and C-Lo

Refresh has the best vibe, it is definitley the most fun to watch, it is my favorite
