Touring set up for a gaper

So here is the case, I'm deciding on a touring set up.I don't know anyone that tours so I have limited resources to decide on gear first hand or able to demo gear.What I've been doing in the past is just hiking with a pair of Caylors and just slugging it. Mostly trying to trek in Icy conditions to hit bowls.Want something that will take a beating and last at least two seasons.

What I have been having in mind is -
Boots: Roxa X Turns, the last fits my feet and are pretty on point just getting a per here into the country is a pain in the ass.

Skis: On3p Kartel 106, Was looking for something close to being symmetrical with quite a bit of contact for those Icy days.

Bindings: Dynafit tlt's, Pretty open to any suggestions throwing out there.

Skins:??Prophet??

Unless you can try the roxa's on / have them fitted i wouldn't order a pair into the country. also the guys at roxa are totally useless. im in france and cant get a pair. The 4frnt guys in n.america are repping roxa there and are far more helpful but i still havnt been able to try any on.

Kartel's are basically a jib ski. Look at the 4frnt raven or the icelantic ranger, Down 102L, on3p steeples, volkl nanuq etc.
All touring specific skis which would be great with a pair of dynafits.
TLT's are not designed to 'take a beating' the are designed to be light and get u up the hill faster. look at some beast 14/16s if can afford / really wanna ski hard on a light(er) touring setup.

Otherwise get some trekkers / barons etc, heavy but can take a beating.

Pretty much this. Get fitted for boots and do t just look at those roxa. There are so many good freeride boots at the minute.

Ski wise see yeah don't get a kartel tI your on.

Binding wise are you sure you want to go tech? If your just getting into it maybe look guardian and duke. That way you can use the skis inbounds too

people on NS sell full touring setups sometimes, look into that. Also make sure you've taken your avy course

Whatever skis you like for the kind of skiing you do.
Barons or F12s (dependent on how hard you are on gear).
Your current alpine boots.
BD Ascension skins.

Spend more money the following year once you know what you actually want/need.

THIS^^^ i use this exact setup, barons, crjs, normal boots, and bd ascension skins...works like a champ

Yo! I handle Roxa in North America, I cannot get you a pair down there due to distribution territory stuff, but here is the contact info for the NZ guys. X-Turns rip. I am skiing everyday in an X-Ride with alpine soles, the boots can do it all. Not too many guys I know that can ski park laps and charge the mountain all day in their boot with tech inserts. But anyways, here is the info, let me know if there is anything else that I can do for you.

How is the flex of the x-rides? I'm still trying to track some down, they listed at 80. wish it was a little stiffer but won't know til try them. Which seems impossible to do even though im 15minutes from Italy.

I actually managed to make it up the country and looked at the Dynafit beasts and the mercury tf's and got a package deal, So all I'm after now are some skis and skins, the bd ascensions look good enough. Think I will order a pair of billy goats. Thanks for the help!

The 8/10 flex tongues is a bit soft for my liking, I'm running the 10/10 tongue and it works out great. You could always swing by the factory?

^prob not that bad actually. The beast did not sell well so there are plenty of deals available.

yeee me too. I use same except EHP's as skis.

nice buy OP, sounds a little pricey though

That will be a sick setup for the 3 days a season at Ruapehu where it's soft enough to use skins instead of crampons and 2 axes... assuming this upcoming weather cycle doesn't wash the mountain clean... sorry, I'm just a little grumpy about the current state of our winter.

Which side of the big icey are you usually on? There's a growing sidecountry touring scene at both Turoa and Whakapapa and Tukino certainly has enough scroggin-munchers (and epic terrain above the top tow) to keep things interesting.
