NS Comp?!

Inspired by the who's the best skier on NS thread and NS Island, Town etc. threads.

What if Newschoolers hosted a comp? One where you had to be a newschoolers member to compete?

There could be a rail jam or slopestyle comp, pipe, and big mountain comp for all types of skiers. All the orange names can compete together, blue and pink names, then hell even the mods could have their own category. The winners of each could go into the yearbook or something as "The best orange name/ blue name/ pink name/ mod on NS."

Then filmers/ photographers can submit their edits and pictures and us members can vote or mods could choose their favorites and they could go in the yearbook or something as "The best filmer/photographer" on NS"

Great idea, but I would make a minor modification. Instead of having people compete against only people of their color, have the competitions split up only by comp type (park, pipe, big mountain, as you said). In each area, have an overall champion, as well as a specific champion for each color. The scoreboard would be like this:

Green champion:
Pink champion:
Blue champion:

This would be such a cool idea. The only problem I see is traveling. Maybe have a best East/Midwest/West comp instead? Then possibly finals? I just don't see many east coast ski bums traveling 20 hours do a comp.

This might be unrealistic but ns could do like a tour? Start in the east and travel to the west. Take the top competitors at each stop and meet up somewhere out west for finals? They could televise the finals, make a huge deal out of it and such? Competitors would probably have to pay their way but I feel like if someone had that opportunity they would pay for it haha

Why? It just needs to be planned a long time in advance, and have several regionals. One PNW (Washington), one Rockies (Snowbird or Jackson), one midwest (Lutsen, Giants Ridge, Granite, etc), and one ice coast (Smuggs, Stowe, JayPeack, etc). Squallywood would be a great place for a comp but probably not enough NSers near there, so WA and UT/WY would be more realistic. Winners from all four comps can then go to championships either that spring or the next year.

Oh yes. If I was in finals I would be more than happy to pay. I was just saying that it would be a lot of traveling for a lot of people, especially for a normal comp. (assuming no tour/finals)

If people actually want to do this, I would be willing to help put together a big mountain comp at Snowbird or possibly Jackson. I'm already working on GNAR point values and rules for Snowbird.

You'd have to do something more specific for blue names. There's blue names who should be orange. Maybe a sponsored and an unsponsored section.

The best video/segment/tricks version of this has happened at least once already in the past and it was super fun. It had support from UA.. Gus won (he wasn't so pro at the time..)

So, we're gonna try to make this actually happen. As of right now we have organizers for the midwest, east, and rockie mountain regions but we still need help in the Northwest and East regionals. If you would want to help out in organizing these comps PM Sh4dow or me.

Ski in the park and O give away cash for sick tricks, best style, or whatever.

Have a pizza party at the end of the day with a raffle.

I think this is a sick idea! But...

IMO this would only be feasible in the case that it was an online contest. There might be people who're willing to organize the contests, but there aren't exactly resources at hand to make it all come to be like you'd want it to. How would you all get judges, get the parks to run a contest, build a course, etc.? There are so many things that need to be done to make a contest official that even if you could make it happen in one place, it'd never work across America + internationally. I liked the idea previously about an online contest where people would do a certain amount of tricks or what not.

It wouldn't be hard to adapt the slopestyle format to online. What if every participant created a 30 sec or so video as if they were hitting a slopestyle course? Just like with a real course, riders have about 5 different hits, and about 3 choices each rail hit and then jumps.

So, something like:

Hit 1 (Choose one):
- Down rail
- DFD box
- Tube with donkey

Hit 2 (Choose one):
- Wall ride
- Flat bar
- Closeout

Hit 3 (Choose one):
- Rainbow rail
- Cannon

Hit 4:
- Jump

Hit 5:
- Jump

Hit 6 (Choose one):
- Jump
- QP
- Hip

Chances are, most members will be able to shoot on any one of those given features for each category, so anyone can enter, but it also means that members will be hitting similar features, somewhat leveling the playing field. Like slopestyle, they'd have to hit the next feature with the same orientation as they landed. So if they hit the first jump and do a 5 and land switch, they'll have to hit the second jump switch.

So some dude could put together 6 clips like this, assuming that the course is the same as listed above:

1 - Two on, front surface swap, following to switch out on a donkey tube
2 - Switch lip on, pretzel blind four out on a flat bar
3 - Switch on, following rodeo 4 out of a cannon rail
4 - Left cork nine uncrossed blunt on the first jump
5 - Switch right rodeo seven critical on the second
6 - Switch left misty nine mute on the last jump

I dunno, just thinking out loud. Really good idea, but I think you could make it even better if you adapt it to the internet and have voting + judging to determine a winner! Then it makes it tons easier for everyone and makes it much more interactive and involved.
